POETRY IN NEW YORK × DOC-DRAWING ✍🏾🖤
Last night I brought the Live Portrait Experience to Poetry in New York, presented by Galinsky at Book Club Bar in the East Village.

A night surrounded by words, stories, poets, and people ...while I documented some of the faces in the room through drawing.

Seven portraits. Every available portrait claimed. And so many beautiful reactions and conversations around the table.

One thing I’m continuing to discover through DOC-DRAWING is how naturally drawing can live alongside other forms of performance, poetry, dance, theater, music becoming part of the experience before, between, and around what is happening on stage.
Thank you Galinsky for welcoming me into the night and for making sure the audience knew the Live Portrait Experience was there for them. ❤️

Three BEAUTIFUL nights with Beyond the Black Box @beyondtheblackbox . 🖤
I came into this experience to draw, but I left feeling deeply inspired by everything I witnessed around me.
Over three nights, I had the opportunity to meet and witness so many incredibly talented Black artists, dancers, performers and creatives. The level of artistry, presence and intention that moved through the theater each night was powerful, and there were moments that genuinely moved me and reminded me how important it is for us to have spaces where Black artists can gather, experiment, perform, celebrate and be witnessed.
Through DOC-DRAWING, I spent these nights creating live portraits and small visual documents of the people who came through the space. I loved every conversation, every reaction, every person who sat with me, and seeing the drawings become part of the energy and memory of each night.
I’m leaving this experience very happy with what we created and also carrying a lot of new inspiration with me. ❤️
Thank you @moonchildbinch , the entire @beyondtheblackbox team, @triskelionarts , and every artist, performer and guest who made these three nights so special.

Yesterday with the Diaspora Arts Collective in Brooklyn. 🖤

An afternoon surrounded by Black artists, designers, makers, stories, style, history, and community.

I spent the day drawing people through my Live Portrait Experience, creating small documents of the faces and encounters that made up the room.

There was something really special about being surrounded by generations of Black creativity in Brooklyn people who carry so much history, elegance, knowledge, and presence.

Thank you Brenda and the Diaspora Arts Collective for welcoming me into this beautiful gathering. ❤️

I’m so excited to join @beyondtheblackbox for the fourth annual The BLACK BLACK BLACK Week, September 23–25 at @triskelionarts in Brooklyn.

This year, we’re coming together for FAMILY REUNION three days of Black art, culture and community, and a space to remember, reconnect, celebrate, heal, rest, and make room for one another.

I’ll be joining the reunion all three nights with DOC-DRAWING, creating Live Family Portraits in real time with my signature mouth-brush technique and black sumi ink.

ART MEETS FASHION NYFW 2026.

Say your dream out loud. Name what stands in its way. Then a room full of strangers goes to work on it.

On August 10 we brought Dreams & Obstacles to Farm.One @farm.one in Brooklyn. Everyone wore a badge, and the line where a name and a company usually go carried a dream. People were asking each other about them before we even started.

I measure these nights by how many times we get goosebumps. This one we lost count.

Karina @motherofkuzka wants to make candles as art. She had no idea how to sell them. The ideas came from every direction. Later the same evening Karina was the one making an introduction, for someone who needed a gallery. Came in with an obstacle, left as somebody’s guide.

Dig @digferreira spent the whole night drawing other people’s dreams. When it was his turn he hesitated, then said he wanted to meet Oprah. Four hands went up immediately.

36 cities have now raised their hands to host one. From New York to the whole wide world.

Thank you @humanariumco and @afterismm for helping with the event. And thank you to everyone who stood up and said what they wanted out loud, and to everyone who turned around and helped a stranger get closer to theirs.

What an incredible day bringing DOC-DRAWING to the End of Summer Block Party in Brooklyn! 27 portraits, so many beautiful encounters, and a community of 3,000+ people coming together in the streets. 🖌️

Huge thank you to @danceandgohome and @collectivefocushub for welcoming me and creating such a beautiful space for the community.

I love bringing my art into the streets, meeting people through drawing, and being part of moments like this. Brooklyn, I love you. ❤️

📍 DOC-DRAWING STooPS Summer Festival 2026, Bed-Stuy, #Brooklyn

Over the course of the festival, I created a large-scale visual document of the day #observing and #drawing the people, #architecture, encounters and energy of the #community as they unfolded around me.

The canvas slowly became occupied by the territory itself: fragments of people, brownstones, trees, conversations and moments becoming a collective memory of one day in Bed-Stuy.

At the end of the day, the artwork remained with STooPS returning the document to the community that created it. The intention is for the work to eventually be auctioned to help raise funds for the organization.

A territory documented. A collective memory created. And a document that returns to its community.
