Really happy with these three little plinth pieces that will be making their way to the @dockside_gallery tomorrow. They were described by the lovely owner Mary as like ‘chocolate mint cake’ It’s actually glazed black earthenware clay wedged with fired brick grog so mind your teeth!!!! lol.

Now we’ve had a couple of days to recover, we’d like to give a huge thank you to all those who visited the first ever Berwick Open Studios, plus all the supportive organisations and businesses throughout Berwick, including the Town Council, Berwick Market, Berwick Literary Festival,Berwick Community Trust, Berwick Style & Culture Magazine, The Maltings Trust, and Pith®, to name but a few!

We’re also very grateful to our Sponsors; Martin’s the Printers, and our Funders; Create Berwick – a designated Culture and Creative Zone (CCZ), funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Northumberland County Council. @createberwick

It’s incredibly important that we get as much feedback as possible in order to make any future events as amazing as they can be. Please help us out by filling in our online feedback questionnaire if you’ve not done so already - it shouldn’t take longer than 5-10 mins. Comment ‘LINK’ and we’ll send it to you.

What’s behind that door?

That was half the fun of Berwick Open Studios.

Over two weekends, artists across the town opened up their studios, homes and gardens, giving us a glimpse into the places where creativity actually happens.

There was brilliant work everywhere, but judging by what we heard all weekend, everyone also rather enjoyed the chance to have a good nosey behind usually closed doors. Turns out, we all rather like being invited into places we’d never normally get to wander into.

We were there photographing the event and capturing all the fun, with Sarah and me covering the first weekend, and Stella stepping in to help Sarah on the second.

Such a great couple of weekends, and the town had a real buzz about it. Follow Berwick Open Studios and keep an eye on their page for the final photographs.

📢 Don't miss the LAST day of the FIRST ever @berwickopenstudios 📢

Start your visit at the @old_brewery_studios (door access front and back of the building - use either and follow the building through searching for artists along the way then pop over the road to see @pigwidgeon007 and her amazing artwork based on female icons (over 200 so far and counting....!!), then head down to @dockside_gallery for a feast of art based on local scenes before heading across the bridge for yet more fantastic art.

Most importantly, look out for the feedback form on QR posts dotted around the trail.

If you want Berwick Open Studios to run again next year, then we need lots of positive feedback!

Well done to ALL involved! It has been a tremendous celebration of art and artists in and around Berwick.

The Dockside Gallery shows regularly changing exhibitions of paintings, ceramics and jewellery by British artists. The gallery is hosting a special exhibition featuring work by artists who live locally, alongside paintings depicting Berwick through the eyes of artists from across the country.

Over the two weekends, Dockside Gallery will be spotlighting the work of 3 long-established local artists amongst others: Hazel Cashmore, Liz Holmes, and Peter and Margaret Thomas.
Hazel’s landscape paintings depict the living forces of land, sky and sea.
Liz paints animals in the landscape in acrylic and watercolours.
Peter and Margaret produce hand-thrown earthenware pottery based on traditional English slipware. Their work is inspired by local scenes and floral designs.

“Coinciding with the Open Studio weekends, and running from 26th September until mid-October, we are showing Hazel Cashmore, Peter Thomas, Andrew Major, Luke McTaggart and Liz Holmes alongside Nikki Monaghan, Mhairi McGregor RSW PAI, Ian Burdall and Jane Askey amongst others. Call in to see the exhibition and pick up a map of the Open Studios.”

Dockside Gallery is Venue 21 on the Berwick Open Studios Map; on Main Street in Tweedmouth. @dockside_gallery

Another view from above this time St Abbs a fascinating east coast harbour which is always a treat to explore with a sketchbook.
This and several other paintings are currently on show @dockside_gallery
in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
I believe there’s a Joan Eardley exhibition on in the town, has anyone been and do you recommend it?
Many thanks @dockside_gallery so happy to hear this painting has sold and will have a new home in Los Angeles.

My last reel about the Tiny Sofas Museum was seen by a lot of people, so I thought I’d show some sofas I’ve made to those who might not be so familiar with my obsession. Thank you for following!
In addition to the many I’ve made, the museum has hundreds of vintage sofas I’ve collected. It’s open by appointment and will be open all day both days of the El Rito Studio Tour, Sept. 12-13.
Hope you can make it!
