Following on from my last post, I have activated full Dock Pudding mode today! 🌱

Now That’s What I Call Dock Pudding is my latest film, made with a lovely team of people, and it’s started making its way out into the world on the festival circuit.

But before it wanders too far, we thought it would be lovely to have a screening a little closer to home and invite you all!

Here’s the official blurb…

Join us for the first local screening of Now That’s What I Call Dock Pudding, a short documentary by filmmaker Sarah Mason, celebrating one of the Calder Valley’s most peculiar and cherished traditions.

Discover the story behind the legendary ‘caviar of the Calder Valley’ and the fiercely contested World Dock Pudding Championships.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Sarah Mason and the film’s cast and crew, hosted by Louise Wadley, Director of Hebden Bridge Film Festival.

And there’ll be lively sounds from Hebden Bridge Junior Brass Band too!

📍Hebden Bridge Picture House

📅 Sunday 22 November 2026

🚪Doors 1.30 pm

🎬 Event 2pm - 3pm

It is free entry on the day, but if you did want to reserve a space from the Picture House website, there is a 50p booking fee from the link in my bio.

It would be lovely to see you there. And if you know someone who loves the Calder Valley and it’s wonderful traditions, please share this post with them!

Hope you can make it 🌱💚

Making Space: Women in Documentaries

What does it take to build a career in documentary filmmaking - and create space for more working-class and regional voices?

Join us for a candid conversation with three women working across the UK documentary industry: award-winning director/DOP Kim Hopkins, BAFTA Elevate and Grierson-nominated producer Margareta Szabo, and filmmaker Natasha Hawthornthwaite, co-founder of the BBC backed Northern Heart Films, who also runs Doc North, a not-for-profit supporting working-class filmmakers in the North of England which gives out yearly grants for emerging filmmakers.

From making bold, socially engaged films to building independent production companies and supporting the next generation of northern filmmakers, we’ll explore the realities of working in documentary today - the challenges, the opportunities and the importance of telling stories from outside the traditional centres of the industry.

We’ll also look ahead to The Local, the forthcoming feature documentary from Labor of Love Films, set in Bradford’s Jacob’s Well pub and slated for 2027.
An honest and inspiring conversation about filmmaking, community, class, collaboration and carving out your own space in the industry.

📍 Saturday 24th October | 4:00PM | @bdartscentre

💰 So everyone can access our Industry Events, our tickets are PAYF

If you’re feeling hungry for a bit of Dock Pudding, our film is going to be screened at @bradfordinternationalfilmfest - just down the road from where the Mytholmroyd magic happens! It will be at 2pm on 23rd Oct as part of the This Must Be The Place : Community programme.

I’m just sorry we can’t bring any pudding for you all to sample, it’s not the right season. You’ll just have to wait until next year’s World Championships. Until then, we hope our doc about the docks will whet your appetite!

And some good news. We’re up for Best Short Documentary & Best Film by a Female or Non-Binary Filmmaker. I reckon my Bradfordian Mum would have been made up with this 💚🌱

There’s some lovely news from Dock Pudding HQ - we are finalists at @londonbreezefilmfestival in the UK Short Documentary category! 💚

Next Thursday, 22nd Oct, some of the team will be travelling to @olympicstudios. Now That’s What I Call Dock Pudding is screening at The Cinema in the Arches at Battersea Power Station. If you’re around and about, start time is 7.30pm.

I’m really forward to heading south, Battersea was my old stomping ground. I was based in Battersea Park when I was Film Manager for Wandsworth. I know things have changed dramatically at the Power Station in particular, but it feels like things are coming full circle.

I can’t wait to visit the old haunts and see the other films in our screening 💚🌱

It’s always fab to give a festival announcement a fanfare, and I’m really happy to say that Now That’s What I Call Dock Pudding has been selected for the wonderful @norwichfilmfestival!

Our film will be playing in the Documentary Shorts programme on 11th November at 6pm, Cinema City.

We’re made up that our Yorkshire Pudding is heading to Norwich! I’ll be there and it would be lovely to see you if you’re in the area 🌱

Thanks @norwichfilmfestival 💚

This time last week me and some of the @dockpuddingfilm team were over at the much loved @boltonfilmfest. It didn’t disappoint! It’s an incredible festival and I’m so happy our film about the green pudding was part of it.

We’re out on the road again in a couple of weeks with @londonbreezefilmfestival and @bradfordinternationalfilmfest. I’m excited to say we’re up for awards in both too 💚🌱

I’ll keep you posted and if you’d like to come along to either it would be lovely to see you there.

First 2 photos from @charliedunksfilm. 2nd one from the @docnotth pitch where I was talking about how the Northern Doc Fund helped me last year. Last shot on my phone of the poster wall at @boltonfilmfest.

We’re excited to see our very own Mandy Chang taking the stage at this year’s Bolton Film Festival!

On October 1st, Mandy will be joining the panel for the fourth round of the Northern Doc Fund live pitches, where two documentary directors will pitch for the chance to receive £6,000 in funding towards their next short documentary film.

The panel brings together filmmakers, funders and industry voices from across the North, including Kim Hopkins, Georgina Hurst, Vicky Best, Ed Matthews-Gentle and Waël Kabbani.

We’re especially looking forward to seeing Mandy bring her experience and perspective to the conversation, supporting the next generation of Northern documentary talent.

After @soifilmfestival on Saturday 26th, we will be hot footing it over the border into Lancs for the wonderful @wiganleighff on Sunday. Kick off is 2pm. It’s a fantastic venue and such a friendly festival.
