My fitness Journey has seen some twists along the way, & I imagine many others feel that way as well. Regardless of the sport, the training focus, the desired outcome, all can be traced back to one word- Preparedness.

Something I like to think I’ve nailed in my injury process w/ my knee- is staying as Prepared as I can for an incoming surgical layoff, as well as Preparedness for what comes After. I’m pretty limited w/ how I can train my legs, & in particular how I can get my cardio in daily. So i integrated a daily explosive drill, and movement flow 3x/wk. Whether it’s Ball drill, hot yoga, battle ropes flow etc doesn’t really matter. My outcome goal is I want to avoid some lower body/posterior chain stiffness w/ the lack of training in those areas.

Point being- I think a lot of ppl (myself included) get caught up over specifying what it is exactly they want, & the exact route to get there. A rule I Tell my clients “if u plan on fitness being a Life thing- you can take a day Off. But only if it’s actually a Life thing” & I think the same applies within your training. I keep my hypertrophy training rigid- but I allow myself the flexibility of how I go about my body flows and explosives work each morning before I get going. I do this to:
1) Expose myself to more Learning through Movement
2) Allow myself to “escape” my own thinking blocks in my training, & return to my roots in athleticism (speed work, explosive work, dynamic mobility drills etc).

Find the roots within your athletic Foundation, & build upon them. Don’t skip areas- & there’s no need to be a Pro at every area. But If you can nail your Body Control, Reaction time, ability to focus while training, & you’re ability to respond to imposed demands daily- your larger Fitness goals are eventually going to start clicking. It took me 15 years to get to this point where I can switch gears from explosive, reactive, hypertrophic, isometric training the way I do now. But it came together! & I have had a blast learning along the way bc it’s a Life thing for me.😎💭🏆

If u fake the work- I’ll always be honest with u. See right thru the Bullshit. Those who have worked consistently towards a goal, of any kind- share a similar facial expression in the face of adversity. Not a sport thing it’s a Life thing. The rest are just chihuahuas. Never be that- starts w/ owning your own work ethic. Getting up early doesn’t count that’s a standard for success. U don’t get applause for a standard- it’s a Standard. Just puts u on the same level as the rest of the dogs. What else can u do to separate yourself from the pack? When’s the last time u gave something everything u have in the tank? If u can’t remember.. that’s ok. But what will u do about it TODAY?

“You say you’re a Champ- but do you Practice like a Champ? You say you a champ- but do you Fight like a Champ?”

Focus on getting 1% better at One Thing today, that’s going to set the future You up to execute when it matters most. When your Big Dream is on the Line? You will always fall back on your Preparedness, or your Lack Of. A big one for me this year is rehabilitating my knee, & improving my mobility further (esp Posterior Chain) to prevent future injuries from slowing me down. 😎💭🏆🔨

Did it all on a torn fuckin Kneecap. Alittle late on this but only cause I’ve been busy prepping for Nationals December 9th. Got right back to it the next day after my first BB win. Not bc I had to- bc I Wanted To. Find something that fills you with a never ending desire to learn & grow. Once you find that, it’s easy to give Everything Everytime. I’d like to thank my Parents, my Brothers, my coach @ifbbprobscarnaty my friends @wolf_fitness_22 @bigmactfit @fenske.fm @angzegs the list could go on.. to everyone whose every supported me- I thank you. Thank you for believing in me when I wanted to quit. Most importantly- I thank God everyday to be able to have the Opportunity to pursue my Passion.. IM NOT DONE YET.

“I want what all other men want- but when the pressure hits, when opposition hits, when the challenge hits when the pain creeps in. When the uncertainty creeps in. When the cuts the scars & the bruises come- I just want it alittle bit more then they Want It. That’s how I Conquer.”

Give absolutely everything to your Goal. That big idea in your head- if you don’t do it, someone else will. Someone else really will end up living out your Dream if you don’t get up everyday & do something about it. I play with no guarantees- but I know I put myself in a position to succeed simply by never deterring from the objective. There’s no sometimes with me- If we do it we do it if not, there’s the door. That’s the beauty in goal setting- you give everything you got to your big idea, w/ only 1 certainty: if you don’t give everything you got, you will surely fail. The only Guarantee..
