This was supposed to be a fresh 48 session, but life happened, and we thought best to let Mama heal, and push this out a ways. I’m so thankful we did, for so many reasons. First, being that she knew that her physical and emotional health were so important to me. And so much more than the timeline of when we are “supposed” to get things done. Second, it has never been my style to get angry or flustered about reschedules. Honey, I am a first responder wife, homeschooling/competitive tournament sport Mama, rescheduling is apart of the norm here. And if I don’t show the same amount of grace that my clients continue to show me, then pick this business up and throw it away. It allowed us to chat and get to know each other more, making this session so much more personal and sweet. And third. A hospital room over this light?? ARE WE JOKING? Again and forever, this business is so much more than a business to me, I’m just so thankful for all of it, to show so many sides to Motherhood and to take you all along for the beautiful ride.

I can’t believe the little one in this picture will be 13 soon. I can’t believe that I have the privilege in leading her in our 4th year of homeschooling together. I can’t believe that slowly, but surely, I’ve seen the light come back into her eyes. My darling wild child, karate princess, dreamer, fact checker, my beautiful daughter. I will move mountains for you. Now, go change the world. 🖤

Fun Fact: My A/C unit has been broken in my studio.. all. summer. 🫠 With my decision to take in less clients every year, it just hasn’t been on my radar, until I go in there to grab something and I’m quickly reminded. 😅🤣 On a positive note, I rarely shoot in there during the warmer months. After being cooped up in there during the fall and winter, my creativity in a small space is shot, and I’m in desperate need of a break anyways. With all that said, it should HOPEFULLY be getting fixed soon! I’m so ready to have my Mamas and their sweet babies in my cozy space to create some of the most precious memories.

Motherhood is such a gift, every single season of it. I spend my time with my camera documenting baby bellies, little ones who have just arrived earth side who are barely opening eyes, toddlers babbling away and giving me slobbery smiles, or my favorite big doe eyes, full of wonder, curiosity, and maybe a little mischief. With all of this, I’d be lying if I haven’t felt the sting of my children getting older, surpassing all of these seasons faster than I can grasp. I used to be so quick to grabbing my camera to document every tiny detail about them. Their chubby cheeks, messy fingers, wild and sweet personalities all wrapped into one. The moments I realize that I don’t create/document like I used to hit me so hard sometimes, that I feel like it could bring me to my knees. I think it’s a combination of healing from the burnout that I felt last year, but also the easiness that came with documenting when they were younger. Stages of Motherhood are always shifting. And I try so hard to sit and soak in every single one. As I sit here editing one Mother’s chapter, I can’t help but smile at what mine looks like. Today, it’s my youngest baby rising early to sit at the table with Mama. Cup of coffee for me in my favorite mug, hot chocolate in a Batman mug for him. Adding the final touches on a Mama’s gallery, while he works away drawing Pokemon and giving me all the facts about them. And every so often leaning over with a “I love you, Mommy”. The house quiet, windows open to feel and smell the winds from the storm last night, candles lit, just me and him. And it was this morning that I vowed to pick my camera up more this summer, to see them, capture them, to get back to the roots that started this whole thing in the first place. There will always be magic in Motherhood, no matter where you stand in it. Take a minute to soak today in with your babies, no matter what that looks like.

Their last day in Cape Town.
A South African family visiting from the UK, spending the afternoon on an empty winter beach with two toddlers who slowly made the whole place feel like theirs.

The light was harsh, the sky almost too blue, everyone squinting a little but after a while none of it mattered. The kids got lost in the sand, the parents followed along, and the session became less about photos and more about holding onto the feeling of the day before heading home. 🤍

This session is honestly such a reminder of why I love what I do.

There’s something about being in the forest where everything just slows down a little. The light filters through the trees, the ground is soft under little feet, and suddenly kids don’t need much direction… they just are.

They explored, climbed, ran, held hands, wandered off and came back again. No pressure, no posing just space to be themselves. And because of that, everything felt so natural. The kind of moments you can’t force, only notice.

I didn’t have to chase anything in this session… it all unfolded so easily in front of me. The quiet connections, the laughter, the tiny in-between moments were just golden!

This is what I want families to remember.
Not just how it looked, but how it felt.
