PT 1 BTS OF BLACK ICE | 📸: @_emeraldlens_

Had the opportunity to be costume designer for @_mwjii short film project, BLACK ICE @blackicethefilm . 🙏 Working on this project meant so much to me! It was a no brainer when I was aked to be part of this crew. While raised in the suburbs, I grew up in a predominantly blended area of Black and Brown individuals.

This film dives into the current state of our world- ICE (fake police) rummaging through our neighborhoods and terrorizing our communities. This film puts real world events happening IN CHICAGO right in your face so no, you cant ignore it!

Its obviously no small feat being able to express my skill and creativity through the lens of fashion, and I’m honored that I got to show some love to a community of people who have ultimately shifted my perspective on humanity.

We filmed this in the heart of Pilsen and we were all so well taken care of!!! Everybody’s bellies were full, the community came out, and the vibes made me feel like I was home. 🫂

Thank you to @lacasadelpueblorestaurant for hosting and feeding our cast/crew! Thank you to the community for embracing us with open arms and wanting to be involved in this project! 🙏💚🤍♥️🙏 Tag who I missed in the comments!!

BLACK ICE Pt.II | Diving deeper into the scene

It takes so many skilled hands and minds to actualize a story, and make up the many parts of a set. And that is the very thing that makes a set alive - with movement, and purpose.

The days are long and the moments fleeting; but what’s timeless are the bonds created, the efforts that each person relentlessly contributed, and the beautiful film that took shape as a result. Pilsen is the home of this project, and the film community of Chicago is the heart of it.

La Casa Del Pueblo Taqueria was the perfect match for Black Ice. Beautiful restaurant, and lovely hosts.

SN: I wish Instagram allowed more photos in one post, there’s so many more I want to share! Thank you both for having me on this project 🙏🏽 @_mwjii @shemazrael

🎥 Big news before cameras roll Monday!

If this caption had a narrator, they’d wink at you right now. 😉

“The Elkhorn Special” — a heartfelt, hilarious, and slightly magical indie dramedy — starts filming this Monday, Oct 13, in Berwyn & Downers Grove, Illinois!

Huge thanks to @reelchicago for the spotlight ❤️ and to the incredible Chicago cast, crew, and community turning this small-town story into big-screen magic.

🚦Small town. Big feels. Infinite weirdness.

🎬 Directed by @danieljohnharris | Produced by @redlegfilms, Joshua Schilling, Kyle Patrick & George Ellzey Jr | Coming soon.

At our screening next Friday, we will premiere our largest undertaking to date. We have partnered with local filmmakers to create a series of short films addressing Mental Health.

The films incorporate animations generated from artwork contributed by hundreds of community members and students from Racine County. While they were creating their art, our art director, Leah Love, shared information and local resources on mental health with the participating community members.

The screened versions will be the “rough cut” editions as a test screening (June 6th). This is because we have a lot more planned for this project.

We plan on sharing major news related to the films very soon.
