Looking back, I see more grace than I ever deserved.

The highs, The lows, The victories, The lessons:-

Through it all, I’ve been carried by YOUR LOVE!!!

Grateful for every chapter.

Ready for the next.

Had the pleasure of hosting a few beautiful people for an intimate evening with Michelin-starred Chef Sauro Bison at DANI Restaurant (@dani.restaurant)

For the first time in Lagos, a Michelin-starred chef presented an exclusive dining experience, and every course was a celebration of craftsmanship, flavour, and artistry.

Here’s to many more special experiences. 🥂

So, if you follow me, you know I do an 8 or 11kay walk 5 or 6 times a week. If I’m feeling particularly good, El and I will do evening mass so I can toss in a Sunday morning dance to close the loop.

Been doing this about three years now since I hurt my back, and cycling became… well, less fun. Just like that, after a decade and change of serious cycling, I literally hung up my bike. Yes, that is appropriate use of the word, ‘literally.’ But that’s not the story.

One of the many things I love about walking is the opportunity I get to connect with people. I’m that walker with the big smile and a wave to all who cross my path. That’s still not the story.

With the Access Bank Marathon fast approaching, my regular greeting now includes, “I trust I’ll see you at the Marathon.”

Enter Odera. @dodobabs. Her response was loud, gleeful, almost maniacal. “Absolutely! Of course!! BUT ONLY THE 10 KAY O!!!” That caught my attention. So I did a rare slow down for a chat. And… wow!

Odera has been on a weight loss journey since 2019, when she weighed 126kg. She weighs 78kg today.

For a little perspective, with my height and heavy bone structure, I’m 98kg. There was no health scare or life-changing trigger; she just wanted to “do something hard,” and chose weight loss. And has been loving it. She walks on the Bridge, at home, and when she travels 5 or 6 days a week, with rest on Sundays. Then she told me something that has stayed with me…

She shared that she never realized how much the world resents fat people. She had been blind to it before. But when she got smaller, it felt like her eyes were finally opened, and she saw, clearly, and painfully, just how unkind people can be.

On February 14, AKA Valentine’s Day, she’ll be doing her first 10km walk at the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. She’s terrified. She’s excited. But she will absolutely not be deterred.

It was a real pleasure meeting you, Odera. See you at the finish line.
