Does’ Leap is a pasture-based, animal-powered farm in northern Vermont producing certified organic goat cheese, farm-made sausage, and whey-fed pork.

In the 1990s, George van Vlaanderen and Kristan Doolan made a decision that changed their lives: they started a farm.

They moved to land in Bakersfield with no driveway, electricity, water, or buildings.

For four and a half years, they lived in a yurt on the property with a small herd of goats.

“We knew nothing. There was no internet, no YouTube,” George says. “We had this vision of what we wanted to do, and there was no turning back.”

Ice cream, ice cream, all welcome for ice cream! Starting this weekend we'll be scooping Saturdays and Sundays 12 - 6pm and by chance. We've got the most delicious @strafford_creamery flavors, with all organic, GF, seed oil free toppings. What ?!? I know. I'm pretty sure this is a one of a kind ice cream experience. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our 80th birthday at the Fairfield Community Center this past Monday!

We enjoyed delicious wood-fired pizza, learned about the District's history, listened to live music, raffled off an incredible assortment of local farm products, and, most importantly, spent the evening in the company of this amazing community.

We are so grateful for and inspired by this community of farmers, conservation partners, and land stewards. Here's to the next 80 years of working together to care for Franklin County's lands, waters, and people.
