Everyone’s screaming about a bra. Correction: not a bra, THE bra. There’s three key themes I’ve noticed: a cry for nostalgia, the question of aspiration, and of course, beauty standards. @victoriassecret have gotten the heat for Kylie, the chaos of the Pink runway show and the overall “loss of fantasy”. With these kind of spectacles we find that the goal is never to replicate, lest you become ridiculed for a lack of creativity and originality. But it’s also not to grossly innovate because you’ll be accused of “too much change”. You need to sit between the thin line that is scrutinised and decided by each individual voice with individual opinions on what’s “good”. Hard task. I believe aspiration is healthy for us. It helps us to see the lengths at which women’s magic can go. But I also think the relatability piece can’t go ignored considering the world we live in where the “ordinary girl” can now have a chance at what was once exclusively celebrity facing. I think the debacle of whether @victoriassecret did a “good job” is forever in question. This is not an objective mathematical problem, this is one of the most subjective topics there is: beauty. My nostalgia may not be satisfied, but I smell good marketing which I’m always a fan of. Remember it’s not always about what you get people talking about, it’s just about getting them talking.
