OPF Conference 2026 | September 19 + 20 🕊️ Why does explicit peacekeeping matter? Because people carry different histories, fears, politics + traumas. At OPF, we create space to work through differences, sans weapons, through play, art, dance, movement, dialog, and decompressing therapeutic activities. ✨ Spot @afiyabeauty creative zone featuring lip stains and key chains in this 3-min recap. 🚥💄🔐 ⁉️ Can different fears meet different traumas sans weapons?🕊️ Hours after OPF closed on September 20, a White male armed with a weapon attacked outside Sons of Jacob Synagogue during Yom Kippur. Belleville Police later identified the attack as deliberate, targeted + hate-motivated against the Jewish community. On the eve of International Day of Peace. 🗞️ So we have questions. Why does proactive peacebuilding receive so little attention, while statements & fundraising efforts multiply after violence? Who showed up before the emergency? Who didn’t? Why? Who had capacity to resource prevention? Who was left carrying the labour? Our video shows that honestly too: perfectly disorganized spaces, promised volunteers and funding which did not arrive, and youth + community carrying more of the setup, cleanup + problem-solving. The mess is part of the lesson. Name the problem accurately + explicitly. Audit it honestly. Then give QCIC youth room to innovate pure solutions. 🔑🌱 September 30 🧡 We continued active peace work by visiting Belleville Fire + Policing. Thank you City of Belleville for not interfering with their participation after municipal direction interrupted relationships with Glanmore National Historic Site + Belleville Community Archives. Nigeria was our 2026 Nation Feature. 🇳🇬 QCIC Pathfinder Mercy Tuga, founder of J’s Treasure International Inc., led our joint application for a delayed Independence celebration, making room for First Nations Truth + Reconciliation. That vision cannot be fully actioned while the related $1,500 City allocation also remains unreleased. Different stories. Different harms. Connected responsibilities. What if peacekeeping began before the emergency? #OPFConference | #QCIC

Happy International Day of Peace 🕊️ Sunday was supposed to be three consecutive roundtables: 🌱 Food Security through Permaculture 📚 Equity in Education through Race Relations 🏡 Dignity in Housing through Co-Ownership & Co-Stewardship But thanks to the beauty of decolonial everything, we weren't bound by schedules, programs, or the clock. We spent the whole day on Food Security. And there was so much to share, learn, feel, and imagine together. One message that resurfaced throughout the weekend was simple: once a year isn't enough. We need this kind of gathering and action regularly. The visuals above capture some of Sunday's laidback flow of the day. Reflecting on Saturday School... It was incredible to witness every child, youth, adult, and elder leading in their own way. No micromanagement needed. Everyone contributed. Everyone practiced kindness, generosity, and grace. We harvested carrots, potatoes, beans, watermelon, basil, kalalloo, squash and more. We played. We rested. We gathered with Fire Keeper Jack Zachariah and shared learning with multiprenneur and global artist, Dolo the Gifted, community builder, Nafisa Adams of Beads of Hope Ghana, and Elder Douglas Fisher on the Mohawk Words Before All Else. Much gratitude to Yessy's Kitchen and Arly's Eats for creating a meal experience that reminded us of the two fish and five loaves, not because there was simply a lot of food, but because what was brought together with thrifty internal funding seemed to multiply through genuine generosity. What might have appeared like it wouldn't be enough became an abundant table that nourished everyone. Abundant. Delicious. Shared. 🙏🏾 The number of families who felt safe enough to gather was remarkable. And, at the last minute, City of Belleville firefighters and Community Policing joined us too. We were grateful for their presence and engagement as we continue the work of relationship-building. Now that it's Monday, we look forward to observing how our community institutions take explicit peace action at schools, and at work. Happy International Day of Peace. 🕊️

Infinite gratitude to our First Nations Fire Keeper, Jack Zachariah, for leading the ceremonial fire and helping ground our gathering in relationship, responsibility, reflection, and respect. 🔥 The ceremonial fire is not simply a feature of the space. It creates a place to gather, listen, honour teachings, reflect, and remember our responsibilities to one another and land we share across the globe, guided by the specific teachings carried by our Fire Keeper and community. And much gratitude to Belleville Fire Department for stepping on board once again for Year 3 of the OPF evolution. 🚒✨️ This year, as we exercise increased sovereignty at our independent venue, we appreciate your team showing up with a humble heart posture, ready to engage in explicit race-relational learning and labour alongside Black, Indigenous, racialized (POC) and White community members as we practise decolonial thinking and build solutions together. Our play + rest-centred, collaborative lifelong-learning model is designed to foster literacy and numeracy interest, confidence and curiosity in children and youth through Arts + Entrepreneurship models, encouraging them to step forward as advocates, builders, and changemakers who help move truth, repair and meaningful change forward. 🌱📚🧮🎨 Future-focused. Truth-centred. Solution-centred. Together, we practise Peace in action while working to materialize a little more heaven on Earth. 🕊️✨️ We look forward to Belleville Fire connecting with our youth, Elders and everyone in between as we prepare for the UN-recognized International Day of Peace on Monday, September 21, while also looking ahead to National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We zoom in on Turtle Island restoration through allyship, listening, learning and considering our responsibilities in relationship, then zoom outward across the waters to explore ethics, truth, responsibility and repair across all our kin continents on this one shared planet. 🌎🌏🌍✨️ #OPFConference #InternationalDayOfPeace #TruthAndReconciliation #OntarioRuralEducation #LiteracyNumeracyArts 🎵 @dolothegifted | Dolo the Gifted will be live on location to conne

WEEK 1: Back to School Ongoing Life-Long Learning outside classroom walls... 🏕🚸 Check out this HPEDSB dress-code poster... we've obviously connected with both @hpeschools and the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Ministry pointed us back to the school board’s responsibility to respond in alignment with bills governing their stewardship of public education, budgets, and children. Months later… 💤 They've hit snooze on this topic also and hopped right back to regular scheduled programming. Bring your poster questions, thoughts, and concerns to Saturday School, but also to your schools. Come connect with @dolothegifted, and the children, youth, adults + elders in the room, about the million things this image may be getting right, wrong, or communicating without words. Why might a Black youth body be positioned as the one crouching, adjusting, and requiring attention, while whiteness gets to positioned comfortably upright, confident, looking ahead, bright eyes. Join us to unpack Black representation, Indigenous + racialized representation, mixed-race identity, colourism, proximity to whiteness, posture, power, privilege, and whose comfort, feelings, and vulnerability is centered... even more so in rural, small new towns on a rush to be rebranded as the friendly city. Media literacy meets Equity literacy. ✨️ White attendance and repairative actions matters. Food Security Round Table | Sunday, September 20 We’re opening Sunday’s OPF Conference 2026 round table discussions with Food Security ~ because sovereignty begins with what we know how to grow, preserve, share, and pass forward. 🚸 Our Youth Director, Janelle Brown, is preparing the questions that will guide this conversation. We’re not giving those away yet. ⏩️ On September 15, our first OPF blog post will offer community a preview of Janelle’s questions so you can start thinking before pulling up a seat at the table. Our living classroom will also continue to carry the wisdom and work of Dr. Eleanor Wint. 🚸 | 🌱 🏕 📚 Dr. Wint’s publications through EAW Publishings will remain available throughout the conference. 🌿 Her kallaloo seeds, alongside her Three Sisters corn seed contribution, will also continue moving through our food-security learning. And reciprocity is an Indigenous practice in all kin continents. 🗺 If Dr. Wint’s knowledge, seeds, publishing, and lifelong contribution sow something into you, we invite community to sow offerings directly into EAW Publishings. 🌱 | ♻️ Knowledge should circulate.
