35 candles 🎂

Living my Black American dream on Juneteenth.

This summer I was set on getting my spark back. Instead I found a new version of me. The mom, the wife, the sister, the daughter, the friend, the woman. I said yes and I also said no. I laughed until I cried and I cried so hard I laughed. Idk if I got my spark back, but I did fit into them “before baby” jeans and I did drink that bottle of wine and I did dance until my knees hurt and I did be the woman I want my daughter to look up to and I’m really proud of that.

Now cut the cameras. 😩🥂

Third in our artist highlight for FRIVOLOUS is @domoniques.studio - swipe to learn more about Domonique. Her work explores imagination in adulthood, with a focus on whimsy, quiet joy, rest, and moments of pause, all which are inherently frivolous.

On view now at @brookrunskatepark during Women’s History Month, our collaborative 8 panel painted wood quilts. Meet one of RAILROAD ATL’s six Resident Studio Artists
— Domonique Stanford (@domoniques.studio)

Domonique will be using her studio as a dedicated painting space to develop larger-scale works and push her practice beyond the limits of working from home.

A multidisciplinary artist working across oil painting, sculpture, murals, and digital media — she’s also been a Product Designer at Microsoft for nearly 6 years. Raised across Decatur, Stone Mountain, and Lithonia after relocating from Waterbury, CT at the age of 3, Domonique comes from a family of artists and has been creating for as long as she can remember.

Her work has been exhibited locally at Empire Arts Gallery, Nina Baldwin Gallery, Calanwolde, and beyond — and she’s contributed to curating exhibitions and mural installations at Stacks Squares in Cabbagetown.

Now, she joins RAILROAD ATL in search of what every artist needs:
space to work + community to grow with.

Visit her studio and experience her work during our
GRAND RE-OPENING &
‘The Gathering’ Group Fine Art Exhibition

Walking through Cabbagetown on Krog Street never gets old. Every wall, every corner, every layer of paint carries the energy of the artists who brought it to life. Their work transforms this space into an open-air gallery & while mural art isn’t a craft I personally excel at, capturing the soul of these creations is where I find my strength.

To the artists behind these walls: thank you for sharing your vision with Atlanta. Your colors, stories, & styles push the city forward, & I’m honored to photograph your work & preserve it through my lens.

Here are a few more artists whose pieces stopped me in my tracks:
@angela_bortone
@samijacqart
@lindadmc
@leah.art.create
@gfb3
@nicolekangahn
@goldigold45
@artofdphillips
@smeesh_bb
@julioaceballos
@alashbaugh
@snaxink
@mevansatl92

If you know more of the creators behind these murals, tag them below, let’s give them their flowers. 🎨📸
