Welcome to the Santa Clara Estate in Antigua, Guatemala. We’re talking Gesha Honey!

@ricardozelayacoffee

So What does the coffee production look like in the volcanic hills of Antigua, Guatemala? Let’s take a closer look.

In 2025 the White Horse Coffee team was fortunate enough to have a behind-the-scenes tour of the Santa Clara’s Estate in the iconic and volcanic hills of Antigua, Guatemala, as part of the Golden Bean World Series tour.

And yes, some of the volcanos are still active today. Yikes!

The estate is owned and managed by Ricardo Zelaya and his family who have been growing coffee in Antigua for more than 100 years.

This renowned family own several farms locally, and over the last century they have worked tirelessly to uphold, refine, and elevate the reputation of coffee in Antigua, one of Guatemala’s most celebrated and loved producing regions.

Dom and Conan were given an exclusive tour into the end-to-end coffee production from picking, to processing, drying and everything in between. Just look at Dom, like a kid in a candy store, but no candy. Just a whole lotta coffee!

Right now, White Horse is offering a coffee we’re calling ‘Guatemala Santa Clara Gesha Honey’ from a Malawi Gesha microlot.
As the name suggests, it’s a honey processed Gesha variety grown at an altitude of 16-1800 metres of elevation.

Roasted as omni, it’s a superstar in our Unicorn Adventures Reserve Range, showing some very nuanced tasting notes of dried peach, lemon myrtle and black tea.

Thank you to the Zelaya fmaily for their commitment to producing incredible coffee and their amazing hospitality.

Had to visit Dom, Matt & the WHC @whitehorsecoffee team last weekend for their final day at the Flora Street store.

It was here that I went from drinking cappuccinos with 2 sugars, to having my first Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha @haciendalaesmeralda experience back in 2011 or 2012 🤌❤️ the life changing coffee 🥰.

The espresso here, Colombia Jhoan Vergara Red Bourbon "Creamy Cultured Brilliance" Natural Process @jhoanvergaraayure WOAH sweeeet coffee ☕️ notes: banana, strawberry jam, fairy floss 🍓🍌🍬 confectionery & creamy 🤯.

I know it's not goodbye, just a change. But this day made me realise just HOW special some of the moments I've had here really were.

Thank you so much Dom, Matt along with everyone that's been part of the team in this cafe over the years. 🙏❤️
