Esta película es parte de la serie “It May Be That Beauty Has Strengthened Our Resolve”, producida por Nicole Brenez & Philippe Grandrieux. Subtítulos en español.

Bologna, arriviamo!

Getting excited about the premier of my feature documentary 'Theocracy - The Emigrant Artist' at @corkfilmfest on the 10th November at the Triskel Arts Centre. Through the lens of the artist Bernard Canavan we tell the story of the thousand who had to leave Ireland because of De Valeras disastrous economic policies. Bernard also brings us back to the orphanage his unmarried parents had to pay for him to be housed. Saint Patrick's Guild in Dublin would later become known as 'The House of Shame'. A visual journey through Bernard's life in London, Edgeworthtown where he grew up and Dublin. Music by Stano. Come and witness this extraordinary tale. Tell all your Cork friends.

Marking the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, the feature documentary I co-authored with my mentor and (sorely missed) dear best friend, Michael Grigsby (1936-2013), WE WENT TO WAR, is screening at @portobello_film_festival - London, tomorrow 09/09/25 https://www.portobellofilmfestival.com/2025/sept9muse.html WE WENT TO WAR - A Film by Michael Grigsby & Rebekah Tolley In 1970, three young Texas soldiers reflected on life after war in the award-winning film I WAS A SOLDIER. Over forty years later, their story continues. DIRECTOR STATEMENT (2012) ‘WE WENT TO WAR’ is the joint vision of myself and my co-creative collaborator/director, Rebekah Tolley. It marks another stage in my journey to try and understand the effects of war - and particularly the Vietnam War - and those caught up in it. Although I have made many films in the past 50 or so years, I find myself almost unwittingly being drawn back to this subject, with films both in Vietnam and. America (I WAS A SOLDIER, THOI NOI, THE SEARCH). It’s too easy for us to ignore and forget the long-term physical and mental impact of war - any war - on veterans and their families. Filmmakers forget too!” …underlying the entire film is a question posed by one of the film’s veterans: “Don’t we ever learn?” Perhaps WE WENT TO WAR will help us see and feel just a little more clearly.” Michael Grigsby 2012 FILM TRAILER: https://mubi.com/en/gb/films/we-went-to-war CREDITS: Screenwriter: Michael Grigbsy & Rebekah Tolley Executive Producer: Andre Singer, Adam Partridge, Alan Maher, James Mitchell Cinematographer: Jonas Mortensen, Sound Recordist: David Lindsay, Assistant Director: Donal Foreman Editor: Emer Reynolds Composer: Benny Gallagher & Graham Lyle. Out of Focus #5 Artist Work screening Wed 17 Sep 2025 Donal Foreman is an Irish filmmaker living between New York City and Dublin. He has been making films since he was 11 years old. Since then, he has written, directed, edited and co-produced three feature films and dozens of shorts which the Criterion Collection calls "searching, shape-shifting explorations of place, cultural memory, and national identity." Day 55 by Donal Foreman is the fourth in a series of six experimental documentaries exploring the sequence of political and collective experimen-tation that began in New York City on September 17th, 2011, under the banner of Occupy Wall Street. Using observational imagery and fragmen-ted montage to create a cinematic space that is more experiential than discursive, even as it evokes many of the tensions that defined the Occupy movement. #WatergateTheatre #ExperimentalCinema #Kilkenny
