Rick Pitino had some incredible words for Donnie Freeman, who continues to show up for his teammates despite suffering a devastating Achilles injury.

Freeman has been arriving early to film sessions and practices, even while wearing a boot or using a scooter. His dedication and attitude have clearly made a lasting impression on Pitino.

Nothing but respect for Donnie. Wishing him a strong recovery.

Rooting for Donnie Freeman every step of the way. His work ethic and attitude through this setback says everything about the type of player and person he is. Can’t wait to see him healthy and playing a huge role for St. John’s in 2027-28. 🔴⚪️

🏀 From the Court to K9 Training 🐾

This week was an exciting week for Off Leash K9 Training Northeast! We had the opportunity to wrap up an incredible training experience with Donavan “Donnie” Freeman, power forward for St. John’s Men’s Basketball, and his family as his pups, Pluto & Dior, completed their Three Week Board & Train with our trainer LiAndra of NY Metro Off Leash K9 Training! 🏀🐾

Pluto & Dior came to us at two very different stages of life and training.

🐾 Pluto, a young Rottweiler, already had a great foundation. His family wanted to strengthen his off-leash reliability, heel and leash discipline, address jumping, and continue building advanced obedience as he matures.

🐾 Dior, a 6-year-old Goldendoodle, came in needing additional structure, stronger obedience and leash manners, improved off-leash reliability, and clearer boundaries around behaviors like getting on furniture.

Throughout their stay, LiAndra worked diligently with both dogs through our balanced training curriculum—combining clear communication, positive reinforcement, praise, play, structure, and accountability. They worked through our core commands: Come, Sit, Down, Place, Heel, Break & Off, while building the confidence and reliability needed for everyday life. 💪🐕

One of the most important parts of any Board & Train is the turnover. We had the opportunity to work hands-on with Donnie’s family, including his sister D’Nia, as LiAndra walked them through the curriculum, equipment, commands, timing, and techniques they’ll use to continue reinforcing everything Pluto & Dior learned at home.

Training doesn’t end when a dog leaves our care. The turnover gives the family the tools and knowledge to turn those new skills into lasting habits. ❤️

A huge thank you to Donnie and the Freeman family for trusting Off Leash K9 Training Northeast and LiAndra with Pluto & Dior. We’re so grateful to have been part of their training journey and look forward to continuing to support the entire family!

Welcome home, Pluto & Dior! 🐾🏀❤️

St. John’s transfer from Syracuse will be out for the entire season after having successful Achilles tendon surgery. The injury was a non contact injury in a workout. This will be a huge miss for St. John’s, but wishing you a speedy recovery, @donavanfreeman1 . 🙏🏻

Continuing the collab series with @khr.sports, we move from the ACC to the Big East for our next Top 10 Player Rankings.

A lot of fresh faces join the Big East this season, with teams like Providence overhauling their roster with a new head coach. However, UConn and St. John’s will look to continue their success, featuring a mix of returners and newcomers.

We agree at the top with UConn’s Silas Demary Jr., but it all changes after that. Whose list are you rocking with the most?
