So back to my previous post. In July 1860, on a bet, the schooner Clotilda departed from Dahomey with 110 kidnapped Africans (2 of which are my great great great grandparents, 1 of whom was a member of the Dahomean royal family 🇧🇯🤴🏾) and carried them to slavery in Alabama. The traffickers tried to hide their crime by burning and sinking the ship, but now, for the first time since Clotilda arrived in America, maritime archaeologists enter the wreck. In a dangerous dive, they explore the actual cargo hold and find physical evidence of the crime the slave traders tried so hard to hide. Descendants of the passengers, including myself, share how their ancestors turned a cruel tragedy into an uplifting story of courage and resilience.

National Geographic's new documentary special is about the Clotilda, the most intact slave shipwreck found to date and the only one for which we know the full story of the voyage, the passengers and their descendants in Africatown, AL. The special will debut on Monday, February 7 2022 at 10PM EST on the National Geographic Channel and will be available to stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+.

Please, please, PLEASE like, share and spread the word about the 'Clotilda: Last American Slave Ship' documentary. We need the numbers to be HUGE so others will invest in creating content like this in the future. Special thanks to Lisa Feit and the rest of her team at The National Geographic (@natgeo) for capturing the story of Africatown and how it came to be and the members of the Clotilda Descendants Association (@clotildadescendantsassociation) for the effort of love to make it happen. ❤️

Been working on the family tree all weekend so I had to snatch a few copies of this. The new @lagniappemobile features the preserving of the Clotilda. Out of town peeps, let me know if you need a copy and I’ll drop it in the mail.
