LIBERATION

I have no idea the last time I thought of the word liberation. In the past week, it’s become my focal point. Last Wednesday I went to see Darius Rucker with my siblings as an evening together for the five of us before LeeAnn heads back home to Arizona. We got lawn seats and I sat cross legged in complete comfort waiting on the show to begin. Then I danced the night away. A year earlier I never would have agreed to go to a concert if I didn’t have a seat. I told our family friend Lauren that my fitness journey has been so liberating and that word stuck with me.

This weekend, I traveled with Donielle and Mom to drop Charlotte off for her week as an Honor Scout on Mackinac Island. On Saturday we took a long walk to see the Secret Garden near the Grand Hotel before renting bikes and riding the 8.2 mile perimeter around the island. The entire bike ride was amazing! I kept thinking about how I never would have done this a year ago. In fact, even that walk would have made me so miserable and there I was thinking about how much I wanted to buy a bike because I was having so much fun. Once again, I felt so liberated! The ice cream cone and the time we spent in hammocks reading was the cherry on top!

Something Jennifer didn’t know when she started last year is that the scale isn’t the final arbiter of winning. The scale can’t tell you that your world has gotten bigger.

Right now, I couldn’t care less where the scale lands or what size I am when my body finds its new normal. While I was on that bike ride looking out over the beautiful lake, I thought about the episode of Schitt’s Creek where David and Stevie are admiring the home that Patrick wanted to buy him and Stevie says to David, “Look at this place. You’ve won!” Yes, I’ve won!

We kicked off summer in style Wednesday night. @ofarevolution performed at @meijergardens and it was amazing. This was both my first O.A.R. show and my first concert at the Gardens. It was magic. The vibe was pure joy the whole evening. Closing the show with the crowd flinging playing cards during “Crazy Game of Poker” was the cherry on top. Unforgettable experience and I’m so glad I shared the evening with my sisters and the two Lauren/Lorins. 10/10 recommendations across the board.

I’ve been following these gentlemen for some time, enjoying their British outlook on America, especially their awe of the Great Lakes. I was super excited to see they are traveling up the Lake Michigan coast this week. When Donielle called and asked if I was up for an adventure tonight, I wasn’t surprised. Donielle always comes up with fun things to do. When she told me what this adventure would be, there was no question I would join her. I have to say that just a few moments chatting with Josh and Jase was worth the drive to Holland. Thank you for the idea, Donielle! What a fun adventure this is and we haven’t gotten to halftime yet! #goFlyingDutchmen

Is this not the cutest thing? A bookmark that lists all of the books we’re reading in our book club in 2026! Kind of looks like I have no excuse! Thanks @donixu
