I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis in December of 2016. I’m not going to lie. I hated myself. I’ve never been that low in my entire life. I had just moved to Rockville. I didn’t know anyone!! I weighed 97 pounds and wore two slings around both arms to stop the swelling throughout my hands. My highs of my days were going home just to lay in my bed and my lows were pushing myself to get up in the morning and go to school. Thousands and thousands of hospital visits no matter how many times I stayed the night in the hospital or how bad my pain was, I always said to my mom and dad, “I need to finish my homework” or “I need to use the hospital iPad to finish my homework”. I knew that lupus could take my physical ability to do anything away but it didn’t stop me from continuing to increase my knowledge. I always loved school and nothing including lupus was going to stop me from continuing to get an education.I continued to fight till the end. I’ve always stayed strong. There’s times where I could be in excruciating pain and you wouldn’t even be able to tell. Hell, if you didn’t know me well you wouldn’t even know I was sick. But I got through it! I did it!! I graduated with 3.7 unweighted gpa with acceptance to 12+ universities and an open door to play college basketball.I would love to thank all of my friends and family for supporting me through this tough journey.You guys made me feel loved and made me feel worth even when I felt differently of myself.And most importantly my beautiful girlfriend Donna for never leaving my side and staying many nights in the hospital with me. If all I did was just crack jokes with you in high school and didn’t tell you anything serious, here is the time to hear it. Never ever give up when you are at your lowest point in your life because god puts his strongest through the toughest.
