On Friday, our sweet Willie Nelson went over the rainbow bridge. I feel so lucky to have been his mommy. Willie was loved by so many and wanted nothing more than to be snuggled and held like a baby all the time. He was an amazing big brother, teaching Marvin all of his best sneaky tricks. He was famously obsessed with ice cream (we literally had to hold him back from our bowls! 🤣), and loved nothing more than playing with straws and stealing Q-tips from the bathroom trash.
When I met my husband, the ultimate green flag was seeing how deeply Willie adored him. He’d wait for George to get home every day just to claim his favorite spot on the couch next to his Dad.
Willie came to me when I was 20. Through the heaviest chapters, when I wasn’t sure how to keep going, he gave me a reason to. He gave me purpose. It’s hard to remember a life before his love. We will miss him so much.

The Taíno Indians, the original inhabitants of Puerto Rico, spoke of the island as a single, living entity. They believed that when you first set foot on her shores, the land would acknowledge you, offering a feeling of comfort and belonging. However, they also warned that the island becomes sorrowful when you try to leave. As you prepare to depart, you can feel her sadness; she speaks to your spirit, gently begging you to stay.

It’s a real tragedy that travelers often leave Puerto Rico without connecting to what it truly is: a living organism of profound spirit.
They miss out on the island’s heartbeat, and unfortunately, they miss out on Puerto Rico itself.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have walked the land of my husband’s ancestors. It is a gift to experience a culture that remains so vibrant and resilient, having survived centuries of colonial displacement and destruction.

If you visit this sacred land, honor the history. Try your best to speak Spanish, tip well, and meet the island’s hospitality with the same patience and warmth it offers you.
