In the lead up to EPOCH exhibition opening this week we all had an incredible day in the studio on Thursday! We were absolutely thrilled to welcome the brilliant and incredibly humble and genuine, Melbourne-based artist—and 2026 Archibald Prize winner—Richard Lewer to Melbourne Polytechnic! We were so fortunate to have Richard spend the day with us, presenting to us all, sharing invaluable insights into his deeply thought-provoking and empathetic practice. From exploring religious and complex narratives across his artworks and animation, to discussing his journey in winning the Archibald with his stunning portrait of Iluwanti Ken, his words left everyone feeling deeply inspired and in awe. He reminded each of us as emerging artists, of the power of storytelling, vulnerability, and dedication in contemporary art. A massive thank you once again Richard for your generosity, your time, and for inspiring the next generation of creatives here at Melbourne Polytechnic. MUY started the night before with ONCES! The night before the fair @otherlatinart gathered a networking night for artists and organisers for the second edition of MUY in Melbourne. Thank you to @nicolas.ojeda for opening the doors of the beautiful @balambalamplace and welcoming our community. It set the tone for everything that followed. The night opened with the founder @andrear_ar_ introducing O.L.A. and MUY the fair initiative, followed by @barlyemoliente sharing their traditional Peruvian emoliente and a piece of our Latin American roots — the warmth was real. Thanks to @anispintora , the image of MUY Melbourne, your work set the visual soul of this edition, and always we will celebrate your experience and the way how you see the world. @andrea.88.88 from @latitudartscentre introduced her newy organisation and how she auspiced MUY, this pop-up fair possible. Your support means more than words can say. @tribu.au shared the story behind their coffee journey and how they brought that spirit to the fair. Thanks to our official media @sergiopinzong sat with our artists recording their stories, their roots, their practice, their voice — alongside @creasca who documented the whole night. Those conversations matter! Grateful for this space, for every person who showed up. We create spaces where Latin American and Hispanic artists are seen, celebrated and connected. MUY 🇨🇴 Meet @doramorenozu Dora is a Colombian Caribbean-born visual artist and industrial designer rooted in Cartagena de Indias, working with the myths, rituals and stories that inhabit cultural memory. Her painting was selected as the official image of the Independence Festivities of Cartagena de Indias in 2022, and her work has since been exhibited across Colombia, Australia and Vietnam, held in private collections spanning the US, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland and beyond.
