Done! Five days of intense work to set up for 8 hours of 23 sold out performances, as part of Berlin’s Long Night of the Museums. Hosted by @berliner_untervelten_ev, it was @seafoampalace’s final event in the historic subway tunnel under the former AEG factory. Created in collaboration with @sunkenpalace, I built 13 channels of audio installed throughout the tunnel, with awesome visual installations by @doroth505, @dorthbot, @coatedchips, @kcouchot, @terribleviking, @hipnzen, guru_budzo, @arcsubterranea, and @terraincognita68.

It’s quite a thing starting an art exhibition space (@thebank.art), building a creative startup (@savaggi.art), managing family property, taking care of a 92-year-old Sicilian bull of a father, AND still be an artist and still train jiujitsu and still make chocolate😵‍💫

But I do it. All of it. Everywhere. All at once😵‍💫&🥰

And I love every minute of it. Even the moments I hate.
I don’t talk about it much but it’s all very intertwined.
This Saturday will be the first time I publically speak about some parts of it.

If you are local, join us this Saturday…. join me with Savaggi Gallery’s current exhibiting artist @kateraudenbush as we chat about the wild process of making art….the large-scale sculptures….the making of an art space….. and the autobiographical and collaborative efforts driving it.

And after that, music and drink….

Install day at Savaggi Gallery, w/ a quick peak video compilation ….

Making big art isn’t the only part of the fun, wild, scary, process, especially when the work weighs hundreds or thousands of pounds! 💪🏽

Getting these babies out of the studio and into public spaces is an art form in itself, usually involves a team of skilled riggers. At first this may not be on the forefront of the artist’s design process, but after years of building big art, moving the work becomes part of the initial process, designing the pieces to fit the size of door or trucks they will go into. It really is building giant puzzles. The artist of this work @kateraudenbush is definitely a pro at the install process, she’s got a few decades in! This install was pretty seamless.

Getting it in the door of the gallery was a tight squeeze with only an inch of room to spare with some pieces. A temporary gantry crane was assembled in the atrium to get these giant heavy sections of art into the gallery. Then came the assembly part.

Here’s a little peak into the process.
✨✨✨
Come to the opening on January 27th to see the fullness of this elaborate install feat. We’ll also be premiering our new Ambient Music Program with a live quadra-sonic live performance. And of course you can always expect artisanal chocolate. This time chocolate cocktails with fresh made chocolate.

One of the astronomy artifacts made by the artist Dorothy Trojanowski @dorthbot for our Falling Sideways show in Berlin. The top paper of this collage was stuck in an abandoned factory window and the holes were made by birds pecking through it.

Happy and exhausted after our performance of Falling Sideways last night for the Long Night of Museums in Berlin. 32 performances in a row, no glitches, a giant line for several blocks and a visit from RBB TV in Berlin. We'll be back next year!
