A few favorite moments from our St. Paul’s Open House! Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate a future home for ten tenants.

We’re grateful to Senator Rachel May, the St. Paul’s community and Task Force, and a generous anonymous donor for making this project possible.

Thanks to our Development Committee, Crazy Daisies, Mario & Salvo’s, Beak & Skiff, and the Boemi family for a memorable evening.

Thank you to Jennifer Staples for filling the space with beautiful music, and to Zach Dosa and Bonnie Shirey for capturing the night.

Help our future tenants build stability and stay housed. Donate through the link in our bio.

I’m Joey, and I created the Bird Thawing Event in collaboration with my band @waterhotel. I was behind all of the posts you saw on the account and directed the event. Yes, I even froze the bird in my garage.

My goal was simply to bring people together for a good time, for a good cause, and despite the cops shutting us down early, I think we succeeded. Seeing 400+ people show up from as far as Nevada for a silly event that I threw together in less than a month was so overwhelming in the best way possible. We raised a lot of money for HumaneCNY, and local artists and musicians were able to gain a bunch of new fans.

I am beyond grateful to Alex Silver, owner of @megatongamessyr, for being so ready and willing to accommodate this bizarre idea, especially in such a short amount of time. Alex gave me full creative freedom and supported my band and I every step of the way. He is a gem of the Syracuse business community and a great host.

I also want to thank @parkercsage for putting all of our merch together. He is a pleasure to work with and his designs are incredible. We sold out of merch so fast, but we have an online merch store (in bio) run by @all_star_sports_ny where you can buy more.

There are lots of people who helped put this together while maintaining utmost secrecy. I am grateful to all of them. @xx_astor_xx literally coined the term “Bird Thawing Event” and without him none of this would have happened. @mattsage12 took care of most of the logistics with the help of @lazylinn. @leigh_is_kinda_boring handled merch sales & made cool paintings/bracelets. @pashslingingslasher_ & Guitar Center provided instruments/some equipment. @brett.5504 provided his freezer. To the musicians we played with, @weareovertired & all of @poetry_for_boys, thank you for giving it your all, helping with setup, and continuing to create great music.

The process involved in creating this event has been documented by @ghostimilo, and will soon be released as a short film. Stay tuned for that.

NO AI was used in producing any assets of this event, and this will maintain for all future events and projects that I’m a part of.

Thank you everyone. He has been freed.

Lovely photos I've received of my partner and I!
Captured my whimsical, magickal, magnificent, witch hat perfectly. Can really see the mushrooms growing out of my cranium! 🍄
✨If you see us at these events please do say hi and dance with the witches! You may receive a hat 😉✨

Big thank you to @dominion_syr for giving me a safe space to come back into the gothic realm. I fell out of it years ago for various reasons, mainly because I did not feel safe in gothic spaces as I felt fetishized and was treated less than human. Having a safe space to socialize and especially for getting back into these gothic spaces has been truly a blessing and means the world to me. Cant wait to come back when y’all are back in town!

Also hugeeee thanks to @dosaphoto and @bonnies.jpg for getting photos of me! Always been secretly hoping to get sniped by you guys (as I’m never a good photo taker at the club) and I’m so so incredibly grateful y’all ended up taking a few incredible photos of me, truly mean so much to me you have no idea. (If ya ever want to snipe me in the club again you are more than free to take as many photos as you like, your guys work is truly incredible)
