“Live Free” (RIP Reggie 👑)
2022
Acrylic paint on cardstock
18”H x 24”W
-
To be honest, I only met Reggie once, he was a high school friend of an ex-boyfriend of mine.
I knew of him though the gay scene, it wasn’t hard to see that he had a thousand friends and was genuinely beloved by alot of people.

I saw this photo back in 2019, and instantly loved it, mainly the juxtaposition, the impressionistic-era color scheme and the tranquility of it. Pardon the arty-farty wording.

I added it to my long list of “to do” paintings,
In August 2020, Reggie tragically passed.
This painting derives it name from his prolific chest tattoo, “Live Free”…
RIP King Reggie

Reggie, you brought me so much joy, light, energy and all the good vibes since the very first time we met. I remember that on that night, I just couldn’t stop hugging you to feel your heart next to mine, it felt so good that I wouldn’t stop. You were a friend in a time I didn’t have others to call the same and instead of being the only one, you brought me to your circle of friends whose now, thanks to you, are my chosen family. You taught me how to live free and embrace who I am. You own a big part of the hardest laughs and biggest smiles I ever had, and a very special place in my heart.
Although sad, hurt and kinda angry, at me and at you, I feel happy and extremely thankful for the fact our paths had crossed in life. Please take a second of your birthday party in heaven to read this and know that you were one of my favorite people on earth and that I will love and miss you forever. Happy Birthday Babe. Until we meet again my friend ❤️

On this weekend I’d normally be on Fire Island running a muck with you; or on the way to Gunnison to cause a scene with you or anywhere where there is music, laughter, good vibes and a celebration...The reality is YOU aren’t here so what to do?

Carry on, act up, LIVE FREE...just like you would want. It’s your birthday. Happy Birthday you big b**ch. I love you ❤️
