See these exclusive interviews with Dorothy "Dot" McMahan and El McMahan after they made history at the 2026 Ryan Shay Mile on Saturday, July 25, in Charlevoix.

Eighteen years ago, Dot won the inaugural Ryan Shay Mile in 4:35. This past weekend, her daughter, El, captured the same title, winning in 4:43.

Just minutes later, Dot added another memorable Ryan Shay Mile performance to her career, finishing in 4:44.

El will begin her senior season at Rochester Adams this fall, while Dot continues competing professionally with the Hansons ODP team.

Such a special day getting to recognize assistant distance coach Dot McMahon at the men’s basketball game yesterday, congratulating her and wishing her the best of luck in her 6th Olympic Marathon trial👏

Thankful for this chat with @dotmcmahan as she returns to @ctollerun after hitting a huge milestone! At 49 years old, Dot has just qualified for her sixth Olympic Marathon Trials. In a sport where standards keep tightening and competition grows fiercer every year, she continues to rise to the challenge. Carrie and Dot dive into her long, remarkable career, how the sport has evolved, her daughter El’s rise in the running world, and how Dot balances life beyond the miles. After more than two decades as a professional runner, Dot brings a wealth of wisdom, hard-earned lessons, and inspiration you won’t want to miss.

Chevron Houston Marathon in 2:38:58 🏃🏼‍♀️

An amazing learning experience. Dot and Caroline showed class and patience in their teamwork, pacing to perfection. I lost touch with them in the final 10km, but relied on my triathlon experience to avoid hemorrhaging time - holding on for 4’42” improvement from my October marathon.

A Trials cut is in sight (119 seconds off!) but it’s time to return to triathlon 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🚴🏻‍♀️ 🏃🏼‍♀️ This build taught me to focus on myself and my process, as well as how to troubleshoot and self soothe when things go wrong. Invaluable. Onwards.

Love always to my # 1 supporter @ekawaoka 🙏🏻

First marathon ✅

Accomplished my primary goals for this race: 1. Qualify for the Olympic trials, 2. Have just enough fun to want to do another one.

Still feeling this marathon a few days later, mostly in my legs, but also in the lingering joy of chasing big goals and seeing the work pay off. Couldn’t have done it without @dotmcmahan - ran almost every step of the course together, got a lot of “go orange ladies” along the way, and also quite a few “be patient Carol we still have 12 miles left” from the millionth-times trials qualifier herself.

Super duper grateful for the support of @hansonsbrooksodp , @evacjess (half marathon debut crushed), my dad for flying out, Maurten caffeine gel, etc.

Hope you all enjoy the rare normal/long/sentimental Instagram post.

The 2025 V.O2 Mileage Leaderboard

To give you some perspective, our top male runner, Alex Rogoten, averaged over 100 miles every single week of the year. It takes more than just "running a lot" to hit these numbers—it takes precision, recovery, proper nutrition, strength work, etc. that keeps you on the road and out of the PT office.

Congratulations to our Top 10. Your dedication to the sport is what drives this community forward.
