Out to dinner for Quang’s 30th birthday 🎉

QL success story below 👇 @ql_prod

So once upon a time, I used to be an audio engineer. Quang started to intern for me in 2019. If you don’t know anything about engineering, it takes forever to get justttt decent enough to make very little money. Most engineers intern for 1–2 years, working for free.
This is a big investment for both the engineer and the person training them.

When I brought in new engineers, I would intentionally try to get them to quit. If you don’t have perseverance, you’re never going to make it anyway, and I wanted to find that out sooner rather than later.

Quang was different. I knew — GUARANTEED! — he would never become a successful engineer. He barely spoke English! He didn’t listen to hip hop, which was 80% of what we did! He ONLY liked Justin Bieber and K-pop. 😂 There was no chance he was making it in the Detroit hip hop scene, and I wasn’t about to waste two years training him.🙃

So I did everything I could to get him to quit. I didn’t teach him anything. I was extremely harsh and kept raising the expectations, hoping he’d stop showing up — but he never did.
He quit his job, dropped out of college, went against his family’s wishes, and spent every waking hour in the studio. After 50 hours sitting next to me learning, he’d spend another 30 hours practicing.

He’s the best example in my life that hard work and persistence can take you anywhere. He now works with major artists in Vietnam, local celebrity rappers in Detroit, and is often regarded as the best mixing engineer in Michigan.

Congrats @ql_prod
It’s still just the beginning tho 😉
