Rob Rayevsky runs the Double Up restaurant with his wife Kim in Parkville, New York. A few years ago, they purchased a 1980 Bristol double decker bus and converted it into a restaurant with seating in the top and a kitchen below. As a photographer of the American West and the American Cowboy, I often find myself in wide open spaces with a high degree of maneuverability. At the @eddieadamsworkshop , my fearless leaders @deannefitzmaurice @julesgriff @caherrera @particularpuffin challenged me to tell a story in less than 400 square feet of space with just a wide angle lens. I also brought an 85mm prime for the hell of it. I am grateful for the challenge and for Rob and Kim’s ease and willingness to be in front of the camera. They fed me the most incredible cuisine from Russia, Georgia, and other places. I offered to pay, and their Eastern hospitality declined every time. The story won an Eddie, and I was awarded a future assignment from the @apnews . I am thankful to be nominated for the @magnumfoundation US Dispatches grant process with the dynamic @mitrakhayyam It is an honor to win and to be recognized. And behind every victory is a group of people that make it possible. It is a blessing to be part of the Green Team consisting of @benhanson.photos @maxihlenburg @alexjosephhansen @identifycdr @ninar.other @darina__petrova @mayrabajana_ @meleckphoto @sofia.poznansky . My incredible teammates bring so much talent, passion, technical ability, taste, and empathy to the world of photojournalism. In their work, they convey ideas that are bigger than the frame. I still have so much to learn from them and cannot wait to see where they push the boundaries of our wonderful and wild profession. Special thanks to Black Team, the inspiring speakers, @jamesbwellford , the 6am club with @alanschin and @justhoch , and @blake.fagan and @jasonalpertwisnia who were both there for me during an especially dark period of grief leading into and during the workshop, and to everyone I did not mention here. It’s cool to care, and being surrounded by people who do makes it all worth it. It’s all about people.
