Our story is universal to anyone who is facing the unknown. But, we are a military family and that brings along things that are unique to serving. It’s special to us when Vets like @aubreyducker take the time to read our story. Thanks, Shipmate!

Wasn’t sure what to expect from early reader reviews but 🤩🥰🤩 When we decided to take our journals and publish them as a book, we wanted to keep that “Dear Diary” feel and we wanted to give both sides of the same coin. Being diagnosed with cancer isn’t the same as your person being diagnosed with cancer. Same journey, different experiences. We are deeply heartened that readers are responding. 💝💝💝 In the early days, we asked for soup recipes from friends and family. Annie sent us her Sunshine Soup recipe. If you sign up for our pre-launch at www.hardtoswallowbook.com, we will share it with you.🧑‍🍳 👩‍🍳 👨‍🍳 #veterans #milspouse #esophagealcancer #friendsforlife❤️ #soup

Honored to be on the Control or Be Controlled podcast this morning with Darlington Ogbuka. We talked about facing the hard stuff life serves up. Thanks @podmatch_com for connecting us.

Been “starving” my demon cells of sugar since my @mayoclinic esophagectomy in April. On my 60th, I treated my well behaving cells to a little yumminess.

Today, I’m listening to @thepigpodcast with @lisa.espinoza who wrote First, Brush Your Teeth. She said “resilience is both a process and an outcome.”

As a @usarmyreserve Soldier, I know that but this was a powerful reminder to put that skill to use in taking care of me all the way down to the cellular level.

Today, Douglas celebrates his 60th. It’s strange to think he almost didn’t make it out of his 50’s.

Data from 250,000 veterans in the Million Veteran Program found that multiple toxic exposures are increasing the likelihood of experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors by 17%.

Don’t let toxic exposure take one day from you!

I left Kandahar Air Field 13 years ago. Today, is my first post-surgery, post-chemo scan. Makes for some sleepless nights.

How do you deal with the nights leading up to scan result day?
