Incredible experience performing @nanibah Chacon’s installation at @themoodyarts yesterday with @whalesoundz thanks to @namelesssound & @noor.means.light

Especially enjoyed using my son’s stickball sticks, river cane from Oklahoma, a triangle beater, and my @red_kite_flutes headjoint, Tafv flute by Nelson Harjo Sr, and a gifted flute from Joy Harjo. Nanibah has created a beast of an instrument, and it was a joy finding the sweet spots and getting to perform with Laura Dykes!

Mvto, Nanibah!! Congrats, this is an amazing piece! Hope to catch up with you again soon 🖤🤍🩶

The songs of birds, some tonalities of Olivier Messiean, improvisation, composition, grooves, a great group of musicians, the vision of Mr. Tim Hagans. Very honored to be in this project and excited to hit the stage tonight and tomorrow. Please come to hear what we’ve been working on!

I remember many years ago hearing Arthur Miller read from one of his books at the Lincoln Center theatre; he concluded the reading with the sentence "we are all related, even the trees." So to paraphrase his text: we are all related, even the birds. Let's get inside the idea of song as communication, and understand the significance of environmental shifts like noise and light pollution, but most of all the incredible joy!!!! Come though to the MATCH...tickets are Pay-What-You-Like ($10 to $25, with the box office fee of $5 added on). Excited to be one of the cats on this gig @timhagansmusic @timhagans @dovedaviddovedave @trumpetsgalore @jessewardmusic23 @sneedjazz @gabrielmartinezartist @guayaba_yo @matchouston

I would like to invite everyone to the premiere of my latest composition "Symphony for City Dwellers & the Birds of Dawn & Dusk." It is a musical celebration of the mystery and magic of Houston's birds. Tickets: https://matchouston.org/events/2026/symphony-city-dwellers-birds-dawn-dusk

I am excited to have assembled an ensemble of some of Houston's most creative musicians to celebrate the magical and mystical life of birds. In this new work the we explore the reasons why birds sing, the perils they face with climate change and loss of habitat, and most importantly, the influence of their joyous song on city dwellers.

ANTHONY ALMENDÁREZ, trumpet & electronics
WARREN SNEED, saxophones, clarinet & flute
DAVID DOVE, trombone
JESSE WARD, guitar
GABRIEL MARTINEZ, percussion

The premiere of "Symphony for City Dwellers & the Birds of Dawn & Dusk" was made possible in part by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, and by a Midtownhou Micro Arts Grant. Midtown Houston
