What can we do to foster a more inclusive and forward-looking society? 🌏🫶

We convened a Youth Council at @asiaeuropefoundation earlier this week to explore this question with more than 40 primary and secondary students and teachers from international and Singaporean schools 🏫

After a guided tour through the Anne Frank #LetMeBeMyself exhibition by GESS students, participants from more than 10 different countries across Asia and Europe had a dialogue with each other and Ambassadors Anneke Adema and Zhang Lei.

Festive season, here we come! ✨🎄

Pantala is popping up all over Singapore this November and December, and I’m so looking forward to getting out from behind my bead board and seeing lots of lovely familiar faces, and hopefully plenty of new ones too!

From school Christmas fairs to festive markets and the AWA Christmas Lunch, there’ll be lots of opportunities to shop Pantala in person, try things on, find some rather lovely Christmas presents… or perhaps a little something for yourself. 😉

I’ll be bringing plenty of Pantala favourites, new designs, colourful stacks, earrings and necklaces, plus my new hand-beaded glasses straps, which I think are going to make rather fabulous gifts for mums, aunties, grandmas and all those notoriously tricky-to-buy-for relatives! 👓✨

There’ll be a few festive market specials too, so save the dates and come and say hello! 💕

Handcrafted with soul. Worn with spirit.

You’re the parent of a 2 to 6 year old touring a school for the first time. How do you tell whether it makes for a good play-based learning environment?

A good starting point is to look at how it sets up its play areas. Here are four things you can watch out for:

🤝 Look at how the spaces connect
Strong play-based settings feel like one connected environment rather than a set of separate rooms and fenced-off areas. This way it doesn’t feel like learning stops when children leave the physical classroom, but carries everywhere.

🛝 Look for different zones
Somewhere to climb, a sensory wall to touch, a spot to make music or be creative… Young children don’t all want the same thing at the same time, so a space that lets them find what they need on the day is doing something right.

🎧 Look for quiet spaces!
Knowing when you’ve had enough and taking yourself somewhere calmer is a real skill for young children. And the best play areas give them the room to take a break from play and sensory overload.

🍃 Look for other materials
A good space should include more than just structures. Things like leaves and sticks, but also blocks, buckets, pencils and so on. When children have lots to work with and no fixed way to use it, they invent their own games and follow their own curiosity, which is where a lot of the learning happens.

We covered this and a lot more in our full guide to play-based learning. Click link in bio!
