Bodyboard video ‘Eastside’ now live. Featuring highlights from the East Coast of New Zealand. Surf on this picturesque coast can be fickle but when conditions align there are a variety of epic waves to choose from. AKL Bodyboard Challenge 2023 Pt2 Although we had to postpone the event earlier in the year, in hindsight it gave us a chance to secure more sponsors and top notch judges. The forecast leading up to the event was classic el Nino (big West swell and onshore) leading us to move the comp to the East Coast. Arriving to set up we were stoked to see the swell had arrived and the odd spitting barrel! It was straight into the Masters heats followed by the Open. By midday the conditions were a little ruffled so a break was decided where pit Master Brad Blake cooked up a classic kiwi BBQ for the crew. Following this it was straight into the semi finals. The Masters final saw some solid progressive riding, Corentin Duret with a clean forward spin, roll combo then possibly scoring tube of the day (video to come). Jeff King and Jason Spence both nabbed some tube while Fabio launched a nice invert. The Open followed with some high level riding by all. Diego had a clean reverse spin to el rollo combo, while Roby Bordes negotiated a clean barrel section. Blair Dowman also combined a cover up to ARS and another barrel to forward spin combo. Alex Chang scored an epic several second barrel, then threw caution to the wind launching a big ARS off a critical section riding away clean. A huge shout out to our Judges, Sponsors and all of you that made this day a success. Bring on 2024!
