Annual reminder that we are, in fact, real people. 😜

The Covert crew just got back from our yearly get-together. Remote the other 51 weeks of the year, gloriously in-person for one weekend of it.

Creativity, connection, and a fair bit of nonsense. Big big love.❤️

‘THE 66-YEAR-OLD INTERN’ // the first 3 minutes…

Covid threw legendary adman & my mate and mentor @mdentonesq into a dark tailspin. Once it ended, he was released by his production company as being too old to sell.

Heartbroken at being thrust onto the creative scrap heap, he didn’t want to toddle off to the seaside & retire. He wanted to make & create - what he’d always done & still loved dearly. What was he without Creativity? Without Advertising?

He bravely started posting his feelings of creative redundancy on social media, and hilariously…internship offers started coming in. One from the mighty @greyldn , offering Mark a 6-week placement to test his mettle against the other intern team (of 21-year-olds) & see whether he had anything left in the creative tank.

This was also an opportunity to see what agency life was like nowadays. The last time Mark had been an Agency Creative was 25 years earlier when he was booted out of his own award-winning HotShop.

This is the film of Marks Internship…a tale of bravery, passion & the unbridled joy of Creativity…and some solid twerking.

Thank you Grey (especially you, Laura Jordan Bambach) for championing Mark & giving him the chance to prove himself (to himself) at the time he needed it most.

I hope to screen this film to the ‘World of Advertising’ then open to a panel of Advertising luminaries past & present to discuss the issues it raises. I’d love to see you there.

Thank you to the wonderfully thoughtful & honest contributors in front of the camera & everyone who helped finish this film in post. Generous, passionate & supremely talented - this was a real labour of love & you’ve all smashed it.

My personal test was shooting this as a crew of One, to see if & when the wheels fell off - thankfully they’re still attached.

But the biggest thank you goes to my friend, who helped ME at a time when I really needed it. Respect Marko. Respect.

.. despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

@haxloeffler and @track6 cooked this series up about a year ago, and who would have thought it would so perfectly describe the state of the world we’re living in now that it’s released ?

@dpalmermotion did some magic over there animating the board graphics I worked on together with @track6 for @globebrand and melt them together to this clip. Awesome stuff, Dan! 🙌

Please check out our new website (link in bio). We've worked on it with @dpalmermotion, a brilliant young designer who created for us fun GIFs and illustrations. These 3 images are a 'behind the scenes' sequence showing the evolution of the Parents page opener GIF, from an initial sketch through a couple of colored versions. You can see the final moving image on our new site. Thank you for your wonderful work @dpalmermotion!
