POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I couldn’t have asked for a more extraordinary week. The most wonderful people in the room, inspired by each other along with the most remarkable people on stage, and the most extraordinary team producing the event. The messages we have received about the hearts opened, minds expanded, connections made and deepened…. Reward that far exceeds the painstaking work put in to make this happen. Far too many to name individually, but special thanks to Jai Punjabi, Taryn Fixel, Jodine Dorce, and the rest of the WaitWhat/Masters of Scale crew. And especially to Reid Hoffman whose leadership and vision make all of this possible. Details for 2027 will be coming soon. Meantime, my heart is full of gratitude.

Big data delivered for hospital administrators and insurance companies but not necessarily for patients. DJ Patil warns that AI is starting to follow the same pattern. On the bright side, two-thirds of physicians are already using AI tools clinically and patients are turning to ChatGPT to manage their own health history. The opportunity is real, but so is the risk of getting the incentives wrong again.

The data warehouse gatekeeping cycle is back. DJ Patil traces it from the "you shall not pass" era of early data warehousing through the democratization made possible by Hadoop and other open source tools. Now, DJ argues, we're repeating the same mistake with AI. Data-science-perfect answers aren't always what users want. Sometimes, they just need a histogram: "a distribution of what's going on."

Empowering your teams to build AI-assisted tools to solve their specific problems can compound across the enterprise. Here’s Devoted Health’s DJ Patil on how a single pharmacist worried about dangerous drug interactions built an agent to catch them, and then how that eventually multiplied into a system-wide medical layer.

What if OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft fully subsidized token costs for anyone building AI tools for their local community? DJ Patil makes the case that the token usage would be marginal, the job displacement risk would be zero, and the potential for innovation would be astounding. "You're not putting anybody out of a job with that tech. You're filling gaps. You're filling holes that already exist in the system."

Bringing #techplomacy from DC to Silicon Valley!

We made our way to the golden state this past weekend for the 11th Annual @instituteforeducation West Coast Reunion where a powerhouse group of global trailblazers gathered to talk about how breakthrough innovations can enhance citizen experience.

A huge shoutout to our IFE leaders and supporters former U.S. CTO Todd Park, Amy Geng, @dpatil, @devikapatil1, Michael Breyer, and @leah_solivan for making this event possible.

Todd once named me the "Mayor of Civic Tech" – a title I'm honored to continue embracing because as #emergingtech like AI evolves daily, keeping #DC and #SiliconValley connected will be key to harnessing the benefits for the public!
