The hardest step in your fitness journey is the first one - simply starting it in the first place. Showing up really is half the battle. One of the most underrated parts of having a trainer or a coach is the accountability aspect.

It’s easy to quit or take some days off or whatever when you have no one in your corner to keep you on track. When you do have that person in your corner that’s providing you with all of the knowledge and tools you need to succeed, it makes it so much easier to just show up.

When you’re working with me, that’s really all you need to do. Show up to your sessions, follow your plan, and you will see results. 🫡

Four of my personal favorite glute exercises as a coach:

Hip Thrusts
Elevated Sumos
Roman Chair Extensions
Glute Cable Kicks

I always recommend doing some kind of unilateral movement like lunges or split squats too but didn’t have time today.

Pro tip: if you want a muscle to grow (not just glutes) do your heavier compound movements first, then burn them out with more isolated movements. On top of that, focus on progressive overload week to week and you’ll see progress.

If you’re measuring progress solely by looking at the scale, you are doing it wrong. Your overall body weight fluctuates by at least 3-5 pounds DAILY, especially as a female. As you lose body fat and gain muscle, you look and feel different but your weight somewhat stays the same.

The more methods you use to measure progress, the more likely you are to see the progress you’re making. Using a body composition scanner, physical circumference measurements, and progress photos are great ways to measure progress while also not being overly complicated.

Once you start to actually see the progress you’re making, that’s when it snowballs. You start looking forward to doing the things you’re doing and putting in the work.

This is what I mean when I say you shouldn’t use body weight as your main method of measuring progress.

Danielle was one of the finalists in my 90 day transformation challenge. She only lost about 3 pounds overall, but her body looks completely different.

3% body fat doesn’t sound like much either, until you see that her waist and legs are tighter, her glutes are fuller and lifted, and her back and arms are toned.

Danielle came to me wanting what a lot of y’all want: to be able to rock a g-string at the beach this summer. To do that, you need to lift weights and pay attention to what you eat. Notice in the videos on this post that a lot of those exercises are the ones that supposedly “make you bulky”.

Today I had my client Dani doing back extensions. She told me she’s been watching all my videos, so I said bet… let me see what it looks like 👀

And honestly? Her form was solid.

We only made one small tweak to get even more out of her glutes — bending her knees a bit more to allow a stronger contraction at the top.

Small adjustments. Big difference.

Growing up I never thought I was the type to be a leader or a teacher, and now I do both for a living. Just goes to show that life changes quickly and all you can do is be ready to answer your calling.

Brought a few of my lady lifters together last Saturday for a group workout and while they were a handful it was a lot of fun. I’m tempted to make it a permanent monthly thing and call it “Saturdays are for the Girls” 🫡

CRNAs delivery anesthesia services to all patients in every urban, suburban and rural setting. We are highly trained advanced practice nurses with critical care backgrounds who have upwards of six to eight years of training.

Fun fact that you probably did not know is that less than 12% of the CRNA workforce is from a diverse background and less than 4% of CRNAs are African American. With programs like Diversity CRNA, it is my goal to shine a light on this essential part of growing this profession.

In 2022, as a critical care nurse, Danielle attended a Diversity CRNA Information Session & Airway Simulation Lab Workshop at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is learning to intubate with Dr. Jamare Reed, DNP, CRNA.

Next weekend, Danielle will serve on the nurse anesthesia student panel at the Diversity CRNA Information Session & Airway Simulation Lab Workshop hosted at the University of Pittsburgh.
