Some of my friends bought me a birthday present, a portable stove for hiking. So I sat at the park and made some spaghetti after I finished my book and did some studying. Talk about being resourceful. So hilarious…

I had a friend ask me “what does being outdoors mean to you?”

Being outside in the wilderness is not just simply walking around and sightseeing. Even though it is a huge part of its charm. It’s about real freedom, simplicity and genuine strength. So many of us live a complacent and sedentary lifestyle, we make excuses constantly for simple things that we choose not to do. When hiking long distances you challenge yourself on many levels of patience before even considering your own exhaustion.
Each luxury you took for granted is a new test of endurance.
The further you hike out of your comfort zone into uncertainty, you find how determined you really are.
And that’s where we find our truest self.

Having a chronic illness made hiking intimidating at first. Got 25 blisters when finished hiking Glacier National Park. But after that I was addicted. Each time I found myself complaining, was a chance to rewire my brain from its own complacency’s. I got Agoraphobia from my lupus, being so sick I was afraid of not being close to a hospital, slowly I started doing tattoo conventions. Eventually as I got healthier I finally got the courage to go into the wilderness with my friend Chris.

The Japanese call it Shinin Yoku, which translates loosely to taking in the forest atmosphere. It is not a hike. It is not exercise in the traditional sense. It is the practice of slowing down enough to actually notice where you are. Being in constant pain and spending a year in the ICU I would never have imagined the euphoric feeling of being in the middle of wilderness. Studies have shown that spending time in forested environments can lower cortisol levels, reduce blood pressure, and support immune function. Trees release natural compounds called phytoncides, and simply breathing them in has been linked to improved wellbeing. This is not folklore.
This is documented physiology.

Only through struggle that one comes to understand the true value of power, enduring hardship breaks down superficial aspects of the ego, ultimately revealing deeper reserves of strength, empathy, and humility.

I didn’t become spiritual through books or teachers. My spirituality was born from chaos, mistakes, and breaking apart more times than I can count. Every time I broke apart, I had to rebuild, and every time I put myself back together, I came back different. My darkest nights taught me more about spirituality than any light ever could. My spirit wasn’t taught. It was shaped by fire.

The Rare Person Theory

Once in a while, you meet someone
who changes the way the world feels.
Around them, you become happier, lighter,
and brighter. You laugh
like you did as a child.
You speak without fear of being judged.
You show the truest version of yourself.
They make everything feel like an adventure.
They turn ordinary days into movie scenes.
They bend time without trying.
These people are rare; if you find one,
hold on tight; they don’t come twice.

“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place. We stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there.”

We did Bierstadt Mountain, so difficult and enduring. My right hand is twice the size, almost close to shutting down my body naturally. My lungs and heart took a beating after 10,000 feet.

We got lost trying find a road that was open to any 14er, went through Bailey, FairPlay, Breckenridge and back to Golden. Great thing about @dr.abant is up for doing something crazy/difficult.

Spent the morning at Denver Museum of Nature and Science with @cave___man___. Spent some time signing up for Medicare before we went in, and got to speak to the Denver Health Director, Dr. Morris about ending my life before the new year.

Mount Morrison was an intense trail for 3.5 miles round trip with 2000 feet elevation. Almost stayed for the concert at red rocks below the mountain.. #explore #adventure #nature #roadtrip #travel #hiking #colorado #mountain #denver

If you can’t be a pencil to write someone’s happiness, then be an eraser to help remove their sadness.

The Devils Backbone/Keyhole, just outside of Loveland, Colorado. Short and easy hike, everyone had their puppies. I feel like hammered shit, so I limped through the pain and did a small hike to distract myself. #explore #adventure #nature #roadtrip #travel #hiking #colorado #devilsbackbone
