this is the most insane thing that i own. and probably will own for many years. i am beyond lucky to have found this cd let alone signed by the entire band. i love dr. acula, from the silly puns and campiness of old horror films to the heaviness that makes them one of the silliest yet most respected bands from its time. partygrind is never not a fun time.

Dr. Acula is a band that needs no real introduction. Formed in 2005, Dr. Acula’s first EPs—Chillogy and S.L.O.B. in 2006 and 2007 respectively—would become cult classics, earning them notoriety for their comedy-heavy, sample-laden and spastic approach to heavy music. In the years that followed, the band would put out Below Me! (2008) and The Social Event... (2010) with Uprising Records between tours with Chelsea Grin, Attila and Silverstein among others. These releases saw the band balance comedy and party antics with horror themes and hellishly heavy breakdowns, creating an immersive amalgam of grindcore, deathcore and metal. The band would go on to sign with Victory Records prior to the release of Slander (2011) and Nation (2012)—after which the band would go on a lengthy hiatus for the better part of a decade.

Fast forward to 2022—everyone’s favorite Party Grinders arose from a premature grave with regional shows in anticipation of their incoming eponymous full length record. Dr. Acula saw the band conceptualizing the horror themes abundant on their early works into a loose story of a group stuck in a Hellscape on repeat, with contemporary production and matured songwriting to match. Everything about the band’s latest work feels like a rejuvenated take on the band that brought us “Say Cheese and Die (Again)” and “Beer Pong Massacre,” with relentless riffs, ravaging breakdowns and subtle hints at the band’s sarcastic, teetering-on-corny sense of humor. Four years later, Dr. Acula are poised again for a hostile takeover of the American heavy music scene, this time in celebration of twenty years since their era-defining S.LO.B. Set to spend 2027 split between a string of shows in celebration of twenty-plus years of off-the-wall, helter-skelter party grind and work on a forthcoming record with a revised lineup featuring some familiar faces and newcomers formerly of Bela Kiss and currently of Bore. Despite a twenty-year long career with ups, downs, ins and outs, everyone’s favorite doctor is still on call, and coming to a city or stereo near you soon.

Dr. Acula (@dr.aculaofficial): Below Me! (2008 Release) 🧛🏻🧛🏻‍♀️ Crazy I’ve been listening to this album for 18 years all thanks to MySpace. I remember the summer I originally got this CD I was 17 I believe. Unfortunately a while back someone broke in my car and stole a CD suitcase an this album was in there so I’m thrilled to have it again. Though I loved how fun and goofy S.L.O.O.B & Slobology was. Once I got adjusted to the different style of vocals (way less wee wee bree bree) I grew to adore this beast masterpiece of an album. There’s still plenty of fun Grindcore/Electronicore party parts but it definitely was leaning way more on the Deathcore and HEAVY side of things. Which really works, super catchy riffs and synth melodies that make you wanna dance like a bat, let your fangs out and drink some blood. Don’t go out in the sun and burn, stay inside and listen to Dr. Acula! 🧛🏻🧛🏻‍♀️ #deathcore #grindcore #cd #cdcollection #myspace
