Happy Halloween! 🎃🦷✨

Sharing a little spooky Halloween pediatric dental trivia…did you know:
-52% of children age 6-8 develop cavities in their primary (baby) teeth
-Cavities can start to develop as soon as a child’s 1st tooth comes into the mouth
-Dental decay disproportionally affects children from low socio-economic backgrounds
-An estimated 34 million school hours are lost each year due to emergency dental visits

…scary, right?! Luckily the majority of dental decay can be prevented, here’s how:
- Brush 2x per day (especially before bed) with a fluoride toothpaste
-Use a rice size amount of toothpaste for kids under 3 and a pea size for kids 3 and over
-Floss once the teeth start touching together
-Limit in between meal sugary beverages (soda, juice, etc) opt for water whenever possible instead
-Avoid sticky snacks in between meals like gummies, raisins, taffy
-Try to keep sweet treats with meal times
-Visit the dentist regularly - the AAPD recommends the first dentist visit to be around the 1st birthday!

Enjoy the Halloween festivities tonight, don’t forget to brush and floss after enjoying your tricks and treats! 🦷✨
