i think we need to practice dancing with uncertainty a little more.
lately, i’ve been around people—both in real life and online—who i can only describe as “sharp.” hahaha like things have to be exactly as they think they are, or exactly how they’ve heard them before… and there’s no room left for something that is actually inevitable and, honestly, kind of beautiful—change.
changing your mind. new information. better understanding.
science evolves. we get new studies, more research, deeper insight. and the more we discover, the more i think we’re actually supposed to let go of things, not double down on them.
it weirdly reminds me of something said often in the bible—“you have heard it said… but i am here to tell you.” obviously, not the same context as a research study on dextrose and body fat… but still… what a reminder.
maybe more often than not, we should hold what we’ve been told with a little less confidence lol. not dismiss it—but not cling to it so tightly that there’s no room left for growth, nuance, or new possibilities.
and i get why we do it. certainty feels good. it gives us a sense of control and predictability. that’s not wrong.
but it becomes a problem when we feel like we have to live inside those ideas. when we build walls around them. when we become so rigid that we stop growing—and sometimes even try to pull other people into that same rigidity.
that’s where it starts to feel less like truth… and more like a cage.
and i don’t think we’re meant to live like that. i think we’re meant to learn, to adapt, to stay open… and to help other people feel more free in what they’re learning too.

TLDR;
just over a year ago i was on a walk and thought about who would stand by my side on my wedding day. was i even remotely close to being married? no shot, but i knew that if that was something that were to happen, would it be what i had envisioned? i’ve always had friends. even lucky enough to have those who felt like siblings. but people move and take new jobs and get married and i don’t respond to texts so eventually the differences in space, place, stage, and state created a distance that love was still found in but the closeness, not so much.
during that walk, i made a vow to myself to be open and honest about what I needed. not just to myself, but to others. i, like many, am a creature of habit. i find myself going to the same places, seeing the same faces and letting the feeling of being surrounded by people who see me nearly every day trick me into thinking they actually know me and I know them. you know, parasocial relationships. but i knew that if something was really happening to me, like i was in some deep shit, those people are not going to be the ones to show up. and that’s probably because i don’t have their number or even know their last name. i wasn’t ready to completely disrupt my routine so the next best step was to first sus out the people around me and second, to try… continued below 👇🏽
