Mesh repair of a parastomal hernia, especially with intra-abdominal mesh placement, has become the standard of care; however, the best technique is still debated. In a randomized trial of 150 patients undergoing open retromuscular mesh repair of parastomal hernias, there was no statistically significant difference in the rates of hernia recurrence (17 versus 24 percent) and other complications with the Sugarbaker versus the keyhole technique [1]. Thus, either technique can be used depending on patient anatomy and surgeon training
