🦵 KNEE ANATOMY LAYERS | Physiotherapy Education 🩺

The knee is a complex joint made up of multiple layers and structures that work together to provide stability, support, and smooth movement.

🔬 Key Layers & Structures of the Knee:
🔹 Skin: Protects the knee from external factors.
🔹 Subcutaneous Fat: Provides cushioning and insulation.
🔹 Superficial Fascia: Connects the skin to deeper tissues.
🔹 Muscles: Generate strength and movement.
🔹 Tendons: Connect muscles to bones.
🔹 Ligaments: Stabilize the knee by connecting bones.
🔹 Cartilage: Reduces friction and allows smooth joint movement.
🔹 Meniscus: Absorbs shock and distributes load.
🔹 Joint Capsule: Encloses the joint and helps maintain synovial fluid.
🔹 Bones: Provide structural support and form the knee joint.

💡 Clinical Importance: Understanding knee anatomy is essential for physiotherapists when assessing knee pain, managing sports injuries, and planning rehabilitation for ligament, meniscus, and other knee conditions.

🔹 Cat–Cow Stretch
🔹 Child’s Pose
🔹 Abdominal Bracing
🔹 Glute Bridge

✔️ Maintain proper posture during daily activities.
✔️ Follow an individualized physiotherapy plan based on your symptoms and assessment.

⚠️ Important: An L1–L2 disc bulge requires an individualized approach. Not every exercise is suitable for everyone. Stop any movement that worsens your symptoms and consult a qualified physiotherapist. 🔹 Common causes:

• Birth injury due to excessive pulling of the arm
• Traction injury to the lower brachial plexus
• Trauma to the shoulder/arm region

🔹 Main features:

• Weakness or paralysis of the hand and fingers ✋
• Claw hand deformity may develop
• Difficulty with fine motor activities
• Sensory changes along the medial side of the forearm and hand
• In severe C8–T1 involvement, Horner’s syndrome may occur

🔹 Physiotherapy management:

✅ Maintain joint ROM
✅ Prevent contractures and deformities
✅ Strengthening of available muscles
✅ Sensory and functional training
✅ Splinting when required
✅ Encourage age-appropriate functional activities

📌 Key point:

Klumpke’s palsy → Lower trunk of brachial plexus → C8–T1 → Mainly hand involvement.
