🎙️ THE GRIOTS PODCAST | SEASON 4, EPISODE 9

THE BLACK IMAGINATION: CREATIVITY AS AN ACT OF LIBERATION

Before we can build something different, we must first be able to imagine something different.

Throughout history, Black people have demonstrated an extraordinary ability to create, innovate, and think beyond the conditions placed upon us. From literature and music to education, philosophy, and revolutionary movements, Black imagination has played a significant role in shaping our history and challenging the limitations imposed on our communities.

But here’s something worth thinking about: What happens to a people when they lose the ability to imagine beyond their present circumstances?

This Sunday, October 18, 2026, join us for another thought-provoking conversation on The Griots Podcast as we explore the importance of cultivating Black creativity, recognizing the authors and intellectuals who expanded Black thought, and examining what happens to Black and Brown communities when imagination and independent thinking are no longer encouraged.

We’re not just talking about creativity as a form of entertainment. We’re talking about creativity as a tool for intellectual development, self-determination, institution-building, and liberation.

🎙️ Your Hosts:
Kofi Piesie | Seanathan Polidore | Dr. Ashley Wade | LaDarius Dennison | Dr. Paris Grady

💊 Magnesium 101: What’s the Difference Between All These Forms?🤔

🧬 Magnesium is an essential mineral that your body uses every day.

It plays an important role in energy production, muscle and nerve function, electrolyte balance, protein synthesis, blood glucose regulation, and hundreds of enzymatic reactions.

Because magnesium is involved in so many processes throughout the body, adequate magnesium intake is important for maintaining normal cellular and physiological function.

But magnesium supplements come in different forms, and the form can influence absorption, tolerability, elemental magnesium content, and how it is used clinically.

In this video, I’m breaking down the science behind magnesium and what you should know before choosing a supplement.

The Griots Podcast Season 4, Episode 8 was a conversation about more than just a book.

“Burning Down Master’s House: The Spirit of Resistance” gave us the opportunity to sit down and discuss Clay Cane’s Burning Down Master’s House from five different perspectives.

What stood out to me about this conversation was the discussion around resistance. Resistance didn’t always look the same. Sometimes it was loud. Sometimes it was calculated. Sometimes it was simply refusing to accept that the conditions placed upon you were all that your life could ever be.

That’s what made this book such a powerful discussion for The Griots Podcast.

Five minds. Five perspectives. One table.

This is what The Griots Podcast is about. We read the literature, study the history, challenge one another’s perspectives, and have conversations that go beyond the surface.

THE GRIOT PODCAST — WHERE LITERATURE MEETS CULTURE, HISTORY & CONVERSATION

The Griot Podcast is a literary podcast, but trust me, we talk about much more than just books.

We talk history. Culture. Music. Current events. World events. We have conversations that make you think, question, research, and sometimes look at a subject from a completely different perspective.

One of the things that makes The Griot Podcast special is the people behind the microphones. Our hosts bring different backgrounds, knowledge, experiences, perspectives, and skill sets to the table. Nobody has to think alike for us to have an intelligent conversation.

And every season, we continue to grow.

We’ve added new voices. We’ve expanded the conversations. Our hosts continue producing and writing literature of their own, while we continue using books as a foundation for deeper discussions about the world around us.

If you’re looking for intellectual conversations, dope interviews, great books, history, culture, and different perspectives, The Griot Podcast might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

And if you’re just finding us, you have plenty to catch up on. Go back into the archives and check out our previous seasons and episodes.

THE GRIOT PODCAST — SEASON 4, EPISODE 8

“Burning Down Master’s House: The Spirit of Resistance”

What happens when people who have been oppressed decide they will no longer accept the conditions forced upon them?

This Sunday, The Griot Podcast returns with a powerful conversation centered around Burning Down Master’s House by Clay Cane.

Kofi Piesie, Seanathan Polidore, Dr. Ashley Wade, LaDarius Dennison, and Special Guest Host Dr. Paris Grady will come together with five different perspectives to discuss the book, its characters, its history, and most importantly, the spirit of resistance that runs throughout the story.

We’re excited to officially welcome Dr. Paris Grady as a guest host of The Griots Podcast for the final three episodes of Season 4!

Dr. Grady previously joined us as a special guest for our “Knowledge, Health & Self” episode, and now she’s coming back to sit at the table with us from a different position.

She will join myself (Kofi Piesie), Seanathan Polidore, Dr. Ashley Wade, and LaDarius Dennison as we close out Season 4.

Dr. Grady is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with a passion for community health, endocrine conditions, gastrointestinal health, and education.

One thing I’m especially looking forward to is adding another perspective to the table. We will now have two women who are doctors contributing their knowledge, experiences, opinions, and perspectives to our conversations.

And that is what The Griots Podcast is about. Different people sitting at the same table, bringing different experiences and perspectives, having conversations that hopefully make all of us think, question, learn, and grow.

We’re excited to have Dr. Paris Grady joining the team for these final three episodes.

And who knows? 👀

Maybe guest host for Season 4 turns into permanent host for Season 5.

Welcome to the team, Dr. Paris Grady!

A small clip from The Griots Podcast — Season 4, Episode 7: “Knowledge, Health & Self” featuring our special guest, Dr. Parish Grady.

This part of the conversation really stood out to me because we started talking about something deeper than physical health: the need to create.

We spend a lot of time consuming. We consume social media, television, music, news, other people’s thoughts, and other people’s creations.

But what are you creating?

If we believe that we come from a Creator, then maybe there is something inside of us that is supposed to create too.

That doesn’t mean everybody has to write a book, start a business, paint a picture, or make music. Creation can be teaching, building, planting, designing, solving a problem, developing an idea, raising something, or simply bringing something into existence that wasn’t there before.

I think that is an important part of Knowledge, Health & Self.

Knowing yourself also means discovering what is inside of you and figuring out what you are supposed to do with it.

This was just one small part of a much larger conversation with Dr. Parish Grady on The Griots Podcast.
