I came to Nashville three years ago to pursue a passion for writing music. When I came here, I was determined to become a film composer. That vision is now more refined and includes a broader array of work, but it always remained a dream of mine to score films. And I finally got the opportunity to do it.

This past year I’ve been working on scoring a documentary as part of a collaboration between Belmont University and Fisk University. I got to work with students from both schools and meet people I would have never thought would be so amazing. And most of all, I got to write the music. This past week was the public premier of the film at both the Nashville Film Festival (we were even nominated for an award!!) and the International Black Film Festival, where I got to serve a spot on the panel after the screening.

It has been an absolutely amazing, eye-opening, and rather unexpected experience to be a part of this entire project. Thank you to everyone who made it so special and let’s keep the momentum going!

There is something so special about watching your child walk in his purpose.

I traveled to Nashville to support my SONshine, James, at the premiere of the documentary he produced, Steadfast & True: The Searcy Story. He not only helped produce it, but also appeared in the film, conducting interviews and singing a beautiful tune! My heart was full.

I also had the joy of watching him teach his students at Fisk University. Seeing him engage his students using some of the same teaching approaches I used as a professor brought a smile to my face. A little bit of Dr. Thomas showed up in Dr. Pratt's classroom!

James, spending time with you and seeing you in your element was a gift. I am so proud of the man you are and the ways you share your gifts with the world.
Continue to soar, son. God has so much more in store for you. I will always be your biggest fan!

Happy National Sons Day! 💙

I had the pleasure of spending part of this special day in Nashville with my SONshine, James. ☀️💙
My sons are truly my heartbeat, and any opportunity I get to spend time with them, celebrate them, encourage them, or simply be in their presence—I’m going to make it happen.
No matter how old they get, I’ll always be cheering from the front row because I am, and will forever be, their biggest fan! 🥰👏🏾
To all the moms raising amazing sons: What are you doing with your SONshines today? Drop it in the comments! 💙☀️

My boys may be grown, but I still send them little messages to remind them just how much I love them, believe in them, and appreciate the men they’ve become.

They may not need me in the same ways they did when they were little, but they will never outgrow a mama’s encouragement.

I believe in speaking life into our children at every age—5, 15, 25, or 45!

💬 Parents, what words of affirmation do you speak over your children? Drop one in the comments. Let’s give each other some new ones to share! 💙💛
