Not every race needs to be about chasing a PB.

After spending the days prior throwing up (sorry TMI), I definitely wasn’t going into this one with a PB in mind. The plan was simply to enjoy the race, soak up the atmosphere and see what I thought of the @royalparkshalf course.

And honestly, I think it’s important to remember that not every race you enter has to be about chasing a time. Sometimes, you can just do it for the fun of it.

Although things got pretty painful around halfway, I still crossed that finish line with a smile (and some heavy breathing).

So grateful to @oysho for the opportunity and to have shared the experience with such an amazing group of girls.

And it never fails to amaze me just how resilient our bodies can be.

My 5 Honest Truths:

1. I have a weakness for energy drinks.
I know they’re probably not the healthiest habit, but I’ve never really been a coffee person. And knowing how sweet I like my coffee, I’d rather have an energy drink and save some calories. Plus… I genuinely love the carbonation. I’m slowly working on cutting back, but this is one battle I’m still fighting.

2. When I started CRNA school, I failed my first three exams in my main anesthesia classes.
I’m not kidding, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I questioned whether I even belonged there. But I kept praying, kept showing up, and started working harder. Four years after graduating and getting my license, Alhamdulillah, I’m now a practicing CRNA. Sometimes the beginning of your story doesn’t look anything like the ending.

3. My sleep habits are absolutely terrible.
I’m slowly trying to change that working on my sleep hygiene and cutting back on caffeine. But the irony isn’t lost on me that I professionally put people to sleep while being absolutely terrible at putting myself to sleep.

4. My favorite moment at work is when a patient wakes up and says, “I don’t remember anything, and I’m not in pain.”
That feeling never gets old. Knowing that I was able to safely get someone through a major surgery, minimize their pain, and give them a smooth experience is incredibly satisfying. It makes me appreciate just how much of an art anesthesia really is.

5. Growing up, I watched my dad work seven days a week, and I promised myself I would prioritize family.
I watched how hard he worked to provide for us, and it made me realize that I don’t want my entire life to revolve around work. Going through school, training, and building this career was important to me but so was what came afterward. I want to be present for the people I love. I want to have hobbies, travel, enjoy life, and make time for myself.
