Thank you to the @americandentalassociation for this amazing recognition. 2024 is a really special year for me because it marks 10 years since I graduated from @uncschoolofdentistry . When I reflect on my career thus far, one accomplishment shines brightly above the rest: our work to diversify the dental workforce. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I launched the “𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐋𝐋𝐂 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥” because I was troubled by the statistic that African-Americans make up 13.6% of the US population but only 3.8% of the dental workforce. Our school’s mission is to increase diversity within the dental profession and provide students at #HBCUs with the economic means to pursue their dreams of entering dental school. Since its establishment in 2022, 25 pre-dental students from #MorehouseCollege and #SpelmanCollege have graduated from our school and subsequently become certified dental assistants able to work in offices across the state of Georgia.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
On a national level, I mentor pre-dental students through the 501(c)(3) organization “𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦” (IDID). @idid.pipeline provides a solution to the racial disparity in the dental workforce by cultivating, nurturing, and mentoring underrepresented minority pre-dental students. Over 850 students have joined the IDID family, and I am so proud to see their growth over the years. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Swipe ◀️ to see a few of our remarkable students who will enter dental school this fall! If you’d like to support our students, please use the links in my bio 🔗. I am eternally grateful for all of my patients, friends, and family who have supported me on this journey to bring oral health equity to all communities. ⁣⁣❤️

Hey everyone!! Welcome to my dental page! My name is Telissa Reynolds and I’m a graduating senior Health Science major on the pre-dental track at Spelman College. In the fall, I will be attending Howard University College of Dentistry! I wanted to make this page to document my journey as a future Black female dentist as well as update y’all on my transition from being a pre-dent to a dental student!
