Most people are told their weight comes down to willpower. Dr. Adrienne Youdim (@dradrienneyoudim) has spent a career showing it is mostly biology.

Your body treats weight loss as a threat to survival, so the moment you start, your hunger hormones climb and your metabolism slows.

Genes play a part, though they are not your destiny, and even losing sleep raises the very hunger hormones we are trying to calm. GLP1 helps in the right patient, but it is only one tool.

She has watched people lose over 100 pounds and still feel something was missing, because the weight was always just one piece of a much bigger picture.

Later today, I’m headed to The Hermitage for some much-needed soul care. ❤️

After a full week of travel, speaking, and connecting in Orlando, it’s time to get quiet. To rest. To listen.

Time to be a human being instead of a human doing.

I love my work. I love people. And I need time to get quiet and listen to my own heart, too.

Silent retreat has been part of my life for more than a decade. It gives me space to notice what I’m carrying, feel what needs my attention, and rest.

Being a therapist doesn’t mean I’m finished doing my own work. I need to practice the things I invite others to practice—including giving myself permission to pause.

I shared more about this part of my life with @dradrienneyoudim on her Health Bite podcast: “How Retreat Can Revitalize Your Life.”

Such a full confrence with so much rich dialog, so many authentic women, and so many opportunities to breathe. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we prayed, we celebrated women who have committed their lives to being excellent servants, and most importantly...we honored Jesus for who He is—everything.

To the many women of this weekend, may you always know your worth, unapologetically enter every room He opens, meet the inner walls with confidence and grace, offer understanding, give your genius, and reach back for others to come along.

We can’t keep pouring from an empty cup 🤍

Maman partnered with @neshamacare to create a space for the women who are so often taking care of everyone else: mothers, caregivers, volunteers and community leaders, to pause, process what we’re carrying, and feel supported too.

So grateful to @dradrienneyoudim , Olga Zysman @olechka_roykh and Alana Epstein @refusetoshrink for guiding us through such a meaningful morning, to @bronwynspencer for spearheading, and to Sharona @sharona4love & Dr. Ramin Farzam for opening their beautiful home to us.

This was needed. We can’t wait to do it again 🤍
