Yesterday at American University, we attended the inspirational 50th anniversary performance of the school's gospel choir. It caused me to reminisce about my beautiful experience being part of the inaugural gospel choir founded by my linebrother, Pastor Jeffery Smith, its first director! It helped keep us connected to the Lord while on the yard at Drake. Wonderful memories. 🙏🏽💙 The American University gospel choir had...has the same impact on their campus. 🇺🇲🙏🏽

Yesterday, we were able to experience the outstanding theater production of my longtime friend and fellow Drake University alum, Don Mays! He wrote and directed the play, Same Difference, being performed at the Wilbury Theater in Providence, Rhode Island. The show's run ends next weekend, 10/11/26. Catch it if you can. For ticket information, use this link: https://www.thewilburygroup.org/index.html
VERY ENTERTAINING!!! 💥

Despite the seemingly endless rain in DSM, these Bulldogs still showed up to clean up our neighborhood in honor of “Mr. Drake,” Paul Morrison, last weekend. I, on the other hand, showed up for the donuts. I’m just being honest. #DSMHometownDog #IAmSoProudToBeYourDog

We’re celebrating another Drake Music alum! 🎉 Congratulations to Calla Whipp on being named a 2026 @businessrecord Forty Under 40 honoree!

Calla graduated from @drakeuniversity in 2009 with degrees in Music with Elective Studies in Business and Business Administration in Marketing. A clarinetist who studied with Clarence Padilla, she performed in Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Jazz II, Jazz Combo, Marching Band, and Bulldog Brass.

Today, Calla is Director of Marketing & Public Relations for the @desmoinessymphony, a marketing consultant for @civicmusic and @musicunderthestarsdm, and owner and teacher at Sounding Sharp Studio.

Congratulations, Calla! We love seeing the skills built through music continue to shape careers, communities, and the arts long after graduation. 💙🐾🎶

What do first-year students do when it floods outside their residence hall? Obviously, go water tubing. Just another day of freshman year at Drake.

Marching Spike, we just can’t resist you: Alumni of a certain era understand the pull… If you can relate, drop your graduation year in the comments! 👇

You can show up in style to your next campus event or game: This baller jacket is a limited edition find (link in bio to order). 💙💙

My friends in @drake_saa had a welcome lunch for @drakebrightcollege Bulldogs. I was hoping I’d get some Jimmy Johns too, but I’m still waiting. (This was 2 weeks ago.)

Networking asks, “What can this person do for me?”
Community asks, “What are we building together?”

To our students… Find people you can be your whole self around, people who challenge you to keep growing. You do not need perfect gear, a perfect plan, or anyone’s approval. Just start. The process will naturally lead you to people who inspire you and help you grow. It’s easy to get caught up in that next audition, recital, lesson.. I hope saw it’s perfectly okay to make music because you truly love it and those you’re creating it with.

@doctormissdana and @bryan.j.hummel, you are two of my very favorite souls, and I am grateful for you pushing me through the cobwebs for our first recital together in nearly ten years now that we are back at Drake together. 🤞🤓 Having our students from middle school, high school, and @drakeumusic x @drakeubands x @drake_communityschoolofmusic in the audience, along with mentors who have become colleagues and the new soul connections we have made along the way is something I won’t soon forget.

@bwell.foundation family, thank you for showing up for me in this way. Your presence and support made the space feel at home and meant more than you know. Special shoutout to your joyful cheers, Ms. Chrissy @joppa_skids4life. Your love never goes unnoticed. 🫶💕
