Peace Division feat. Pleasant Gehman – Blacklight Sleaze (Original Mix) (2006)

Dark, seductive, and unapologetically underground.

Produced by Peace Division’s Clive Henry and Justin Drake, Blacklight Sleaze blends a hypnotic, stripped-back groove with the provocative spoken-word vocals of Pleasant Gehman.

Released on NRK Sound Division, the track captures the darker, sleazier side of mid-2000s underground house, where rolling basslines, minimal percussion, and unsettling atmospheres took center stage.

A late-night excursion into the shadowy territory between deep house and tech-house, built for dancefloors that had no intention of calling it a night.

THE STRANGE PULL OF FATE’S MAGNETS: NOT EVEN NOTICED | 🇩🇪 | TROVE 043 | MUSIC

Carsten Fluck and Lucas Lejeune were barely teenagers when they struck up a conversation in a Frankfurt record store.

The friendship briefly burned bright before being extinguished…because, you know. Life.

Before fate’s magnets drew them back together in the most random of places.

“We literally ran into each other in a small Croatian village. We then played each other what we’d been working on in the meantime and once back in Frankfurt spent the following weeks in Lucas’s bedroom trying to turn that into something.”

An adorable origin story, if you ask me. not even noticed’s music feels like a wide-open plain.

I’m currently reading Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, an epic Western novel following Texas Rangers on a cattle drive across the American frontier. The landscapes McMurtry conjures on the page are what come to mind when I hit play on Carsten and Lucas’s catalogue. Large expanses of space. Unobscured views. Area to roam.

Iconic Frankfurt club Robert Johnson is a place that’s left an indelible mark on the duo.

“It gave us an early feeling for what a night can do when the music sits right, and that has stayed with us through everything we’ve released ever since.”

There’s a crispness to the sounds they produce, like every element has been laboured over until it sits exactly where it should. Pulled apart and put back together just the way Carsten and Lucas like it. Rubbed synth chords, potent drum patterns and acidic licks are always major players. The result…tunes that feel equally at home sitting down or standing up.

Simple is better. But it's not easy.

When a track is just a solid beat, a bassline and a one-bar sample, you can't fake it.

There's nowhere to hide.

Peace Division knew that and used it to their advantage.

2015 Release. 2005 Tribal Attitude.

Midnight Special was Justin Drake from Peace Division and Tsuba boss Kevin Griffiths, so you already know this came from proper UK house heads.

They took Craig Bratley’s album track and turned it into a groove-heavy underground roller.

This is Beat On The Drum, the Midnight Special Mix.

This Is Real Tech House

Before the big tribal house bombs that they became known for, Pesce Division actually did a lot more Tech House, albeit with a very percussive edge.
