BENCH Company Announcement
DIRECTOR - Theo St. Claire @theostclaire

Theo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bedford.
His love of theatre was first nurtured during secondary school, when he was awarded a Drama Scholarship at Bedford School.
During his gap year, he founded Cynic & Faith Productions and directed, produced and starred in a production of Yasmina Reza's Art.
He trained at Drama Centre London (G50) @dramacentreldn . Since graduating in 2014, he has worked as an actor across Stage, Screen and Voiceover. He is a frequent collaborator with @beznatheatre.

Theo has been directed by the likes of Emma Rice (Twelfth Night, Shakespeare's Globe), Tom Morris (Touching The Void, BOV + West End), Erica Whyman (A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Play For The Nation, RSC UK Tour) amongst many others. His directorial process is informed by the knowledge gleaned from these great artists.

As a director, Theo is focussed on telling stories that can hold up in non-traditional theatre spaces as well as the prosceneum arch. He is interested in meeting audiences where they're at, and he is acutely aware of the renewed importance of live human experiences in a world increasingly being taken over by the digital and synthetic.

"The privilege of growing up in these two worlds (Harare, Zimbabwe and London, England) is I have experience in both perspectives.

Everyone has a right to be able to see themselves in the stories we tell because that in turn creates your idea of yourself... We can arm ourselves more accurately for whatever restrictions the world throws at us."

Regé-Jean Page talks about how art shaped him in an unexpected way...

Listen in and catch more of the very meaningful discussion (in ways you haven't like dove into his psyche before and some geeky stuff on the side) on the Tinfoil Swans podcast with Katt Kinsman.

I really love the styling and look here!! Bravo to the style team 👏

Make this day even more special to Regé by getting tickets to watch him and Halle Bailey on the big screen with their beautiful joyous romcom, "You, Me & Tuscany". Out NOW!!

He was born in London, to a Zimbabwean mother, a nurse, and a father who was a Catholic priest. When Regé-Jean was a baby, the family moved to Harare, where he and his younger brother, Tose, were brought up until returning to London for secondary school.

“Harare is close to my heart, it’s where I grew up. I’m not sure I’d go back. I probably wouldn’t recognise much of it at this point. But if you hadn’t been to Hackney in 10 years, you wouldn’t recognise it.”

His Zimbabwean accent wasn’t strong – his father spoke in an old-fashioned RP, which he picked up – but it was enough to make him an outsider at school in London. “I think you find a lot of actors are from overseas or military families, they move around and learn to fit in. Learning to assimilate, watching people and taking on that shape.” - The Telegraph

I'm really glad he made that decision! 😊

Regé-Jean Page picks a card and answers questions from Brit Vogue like about the decision of being an actor and loving Sentimental Value, the other one he is not allowed to disclose lmao

"You move in silence, until you move loud" I LOVE THAT. and how it should be. Thank you, Regé-Jean Page we'll be anticipating those projects

TRANSCRIPT:
"I'm working on a Gatsby stage show for the end of the year, if we're lucky, which is very, very exciting. I think that there's room to do some very interesting things with Gatsby that I haven't seen explored the way that we're going to. And then another couple of little bits; I got a show at Netflix, I got a show at Apple that we're working on. I don't know what's coming up, but we've got a lot, a lot in the kitchen. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I'm keeping my head down, I'm watering the bamboo, and some shoots are coming up, you know? You move in silence until you move loud."

Throwback to 2018 when Wesam Keesh of Wesam's World podcast interviewed his For The People co-star, Regé-Jean Page about how he started his acting career. Regé was all praises for director Michael Longhurst for giving him his big break in theater immediately after he graduated from the Drama Centre in 2013. Regé played Crowther in The History Boys.

It will be a full circle moment when Regé-Jean Page steps back onto stage with his take on The Great Gatsby, an adaptation for London's West End. He will not only star in it but also be producing under his A Mighty Stranger banner and working again after more than a decade with Michael Longhurst as director.
