Goodnight from Chestertown, Maryland, where Goji got his cone off and looks like James Carville again.

I haven’t posted for a while. I’ve been focused on writing books, catching up for lost time. Trying to write interesting sentences. Trying to write stories that are worth reading. Trying to figure out what I’m trying to say.

Robbi has also been working, charging hard toward her first deadline for The Cookie War, the sixth book of the Cookie Chronicles series, in which Ben and his best friend Janet find themselves on opposite sides of a mudslinging political campaign.

Robbi just drew a wrestler body-slamming another wrestler while holding a zebra. It is always fun, as I write my stories, to imagine how Robbi will decide to illustrate them. The things she comes up with are always way better than what shows up in my head.

What else?

Alden continues to spend each Wednesday afternoon running through the woods with dozens (or last week, hundreds!) of other girls. She continues to learn new songs and march with her band-mates at the halftime of home football games.

Kato has been tearing up the soccer pitch playing for his school team and rec league. This past weekend, he competed in his first competitive Rubik’s cube tournament. The competition was fierce and Kato missed the semifinals in the 3x3 by two one-hundredths of a second! But he had fun and says he’ll try it again at some point.

Jasper has been busy 1) playing soccer, 2) helping me make The Most Amazing Chocolate Cake, and 3) honing his shopping skills with his BFF Suzie.

Augie is Augie. He has started playing trombone. He has fiercely reconnected with his friends. He still gives incredible hugs.

When not writing or illustrating things, Robbi and I have continued to work on getting the house in order. She wallpapered the far end of our living room while I painted the built-in bunkbeds. Both had the effect of inching our house one step closer to the sort of place respectable adults might live when they grow up.

We’re making less progress on that front.
