▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⚕️ PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS (PANS) UNIBEN CHAPTER MAY 5TH, 2026 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✨ WORLD ASTHMA DAY 2026: EVERY BREATH COUNTS ✨ Public Health Committee, PANS UNIBEN. Breathing is something most of us do without a second thought. But for over 260 million people worldwide, including many of our friends, classmates, and family members, taking a full, deep breath can sometimes feel like an impossible struggle. Today is WORLD ASTHMA DAY, and the 2026 global theme set by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) is a powerful call for equity: "ACCESS TO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY INHALERS FOR EVERYONE WITH ASTHMA – STILL AN URGENT NEED." As the humanitarian arm of PANS UNIBEN, we believe that breathing freely should never be a luxury. Here is what you need to know to protect yourself and support those living with asthma: 🫁 1. Understand the "Two Inhaler" System Many people with asthma rely solely on their "rescue" inhalers (like the common blue Salbutamol pumps) when they feel an attack coming. While these provide quick relief by opening the airways, they do not treat the underlying problem. The root cause of asthma is inflammation (swelling) inside the lungs. 💡 2. The Power of Anti-Inflammatory Inhalers This year's theme focuses on *corticosteroid inhalers*. These are "controller" medications taken daily to reduce swelling and actually *prevent* asthma attacks and asthma-related deaths. The new standard of care even encourages 2-in-1 inhalers that treat symptoms while reducing risk at the same time. No one, from pre-school children to adults, should be denied access to these life-saving controllers. 🧹 3. Know Your Triggers (Campus Awareness) Asthma attacks do not just happen out of nowhere; they are triggered. Common triggers in our environment include: ⚠️Dust in lecture halls or hostels ⚠️Strong perfumes and body sprays (be mindful of your roommates!) ⚠️Cold weather (especially now that the rainy season is starting) ⚠️Smoke from burning refuse Stephen E

More Than Just a Pill Counter 💊 Ever wondered what really happens before a medicine reaches your hands? It starts long before you walk into the pharmacy. It begins in the lab, with rigorous testing, formulation, and quality checks. Every capsule and tablet passes through the hands of pharmacists who understand that safety is a life-or-death responsibility. But the job doesn't stop at the factory. When you stand at the counter, a pharmacist is doing much more than just handing you a pack. We are: ✅ Checking for dangerous interactions with your other medicines.✅ Calculating the exact dose your body can handle. ✅ Ensuring this specific brand is safe and unexpired.✅ Ensuring the Right drug is given to the Right patient, for the Right indication(disease/illness) at the Right dose, at the Right time using the Right route of administration. What the world sees is just a transaction. What we see is science, precision, and protection. Every decision a pharmacist makes from the production line to the counseling desk carries the weight of a life. One pharmacist’s diligence can safeguard a community, ensuring that the cure doesn't become the poison. So, the next time you hold a pill, remember this: There is a pharmacist behind it and one standing right in front of you working tirelessly to keep you safe, healthy, and alive. Your health is our promise. 🌿 #PublicHealth #Pharmacy #UNIBEN #DrugSafety #HealthcareHeroes #PatientCare #ResearchAndIndustrialPharmacy #HospitalPharmacy #CommunityPharmacy. © Stephen Eloviano Ayikor.
