This month, we are highlighting a professor who brings all the joy and laughter, it’s Dr. Charlie Mitchell! @drcharliem was an artistic associate with the award-winning Chesapeake Shakespeare Company and has worked as an actor in a variety of theatres in New York City, Chicago, and Baltimore. At the Hippodrome Theatre, the only professional theatre in Gainesville, he has appeared in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged], Let the Right One In, The Legend of Georgia McBride, Hamlet, Hand to God, Peter and the Starcatcher, Mr. Burns, and The Tempest. There, he also directed A Doll’s House, Part 2, As You Like It, and The Snow Queen, his adaption of the story by Hans Christian Anderson. His last play, The Report, was performed by the American Theatre of Actors in New York City. At UF, Dr. Mitchell has directed the following productions: The Visit, Eurydice, Luna Gale, Sketchy People (written by Dr. Mitchell), Metamorphoses, Hobson’s Choice, Urinetown, A Piece of My Heart, You Can’t Take It With You, The Grapes of Wrath, and In the Blood. Some principles Dr. Mitchell instills in his teaching are: "Take your art seriously and strive to get better. Seek criticism over praise every time." #gogators #facultyspotlight #director #comedy #playwriting

So excited to share this one... My poster design for Friedrich Dürrenmatt's brilliant dark comedy: The Visit. My final production with @gatordesigntech is a bittersweet one, and I wanted to make sure I went all in on this one, especially with it being my thesis production. I also want to point out every single piece of this poster is human made. No AI bullshit. No cutting corners. Pure human artwork to honor and uplift the countless artists in real life putting this production together on stage, in person, every single night for you to experience. Utilizing AI to promote a human centered art form is the biggest slap in the face, and I for one am not going to be joining that crowd. Swipe through to see some up close details of the poster art, as well as two of the real base photos of our very beautiful and talented Claire Zachanassian: @talia_caso who helped pose for the final piece. I can't wait to unveil the over 100 looks that our version of The Visit has in store. Stay tuned✨🐝 #graphicdesign#humanartist#noai#thevisit#posterartist

It's time to reveal of 5th MainStage poster of the 2025/26 @ufsotd Season! With themes of consumerism, cult following, and greed, Poster Designer @stephensstuff and Director @drcharliem collaborated together on this design to create something that felt like a vintage advertisement from the 1950s, the era in which Friedrich Dürrenmatt's chilling dark comedy takes place. Complete with weathered edges, faux fold lines, and accurate typefaces, we hope this one transports you back in time to the era of the New Look, and brings you in to the mysterious world of Güellen. "Visit" us on March 27th in the Constans Theatre on Opening Night for our final MainStage theatre production of the 25/26 season! Directed by: @drcharliem Lighting Design: @travismoak Scenic Design: @kaydazey Makeup and Hair Design: @jwaltzcostumedesign Sound Design: @mma.dyy Stage Management: @lauren.w.rench Costume Design: @stephensstuff #uf#universityofflorida#schooloftheatreanddance#thevisit#gogators

A first look at the costumes for THE VISIT with @gatordesigntech 1 of 6 looks created for the pinnacle character of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's chilling yet relevant play. Played by the brilliant @talia_caso, Claire Zachanassian's first look will pay direct homage to @dior 's iconic 1947 bar suit, a silhouette that paved the way for the now recognizable and classic looks of the 1950s. Claire will ultimately bestow a "new look" over the town of Güellen, and all that inhabit it. With the nature of this show leaning macabre and eerie, we've added subtle bee motifs to her styling, emphasizing the queen bee-like nature Claire has in the eyes of the townspeople. Cult-like following and hive mind are such important themes in this production, so the concept of bee motifs subtly woven throughout our costumes just felt right, plus how could we not go the bee route with all the yellow shoes in the show✨ THE VISIT opens in March of 2026 with @ufsotd *rendering created by Human Artist. No use of Generative AI was utilized in the creation of this artwork #costumedesign#fashiondesign#costumedesigner#conceptart#digitalart
