Maternal mortality is a term used to describe deaths that occur any time during pregnancy or in the 42 days AFTER giving birth.⁣

Heart disease and stroke are leading causes of maternal mortality, and cardiomyopathy (a weakened heart muscle) is the most common cause of death one week to a year after delivery.⁣ Women are mostly familiar with preeclampsia during pregnancy but did you know you can also get it after you give birth 😩?!

The US Health department in 2022 found that 84% of U.S. maternal deaths are preventable!!! ⁣

Unbelievable right?⁣

The reality is women with pregnancy-related health complications may not always recognize the early warning signs of their illness. That headache or blurry vision may be felt to be due to lack of sleep. Or those swollen legs thought to be pregnancy, birth related.⁣

Are you breastfeeding and exhibiting signs of COVID-19? Confused on what you should do?⁣

Based on the limited information out there, it is unlikely that COVID-19 can be transmitted via breast milk. In most cases a woman should continue to breastfeed with some precautions. ⁣
⁣
If you have confirmed COViD-19, you should talk to your provider about what precautions to take, but here are a few suggestions:⁣
⁣
🔶Wash your hands before touching your baby⁣
⁣
🔶Wear a cloth face covering, if possible, while feeding at the breast⁣
⁣
🔶Wash your hands before touching pump or bottle parts and clean all parts after each use.⁣

Non cancerous tumors in the walls of the uterus. ⁣

▪️pregnancy complications. Fibroids don’t prevent one from getting pregnant but can lead to complications during pregnancy. For example, fetal growth restriction and preterm labor.⁣
